Nice job and plenty of perseverance to get the job done.. Some tips to make it easier.... Cut the wires off and use a deep 6-point impact socket. If you must cut it off, use a stone disc cutter. A metal blade wont cut thru ceramic. Heat is the easiest way to get that off. If you don't have an acetylene torch, use a propane hand torch with MAP Gas. MAP gas burns much hotter than propane and is available at any hardware store. Heat it at the base only and it will expand the threads enough to break the bond. Whenever tapping always use oil to avoid breaking the tap.. Clean out taps are available at Auto Parts stores. 👍

I'm really thankful I didn't have to do that. I took off that section of the exhaust with the o2 sensor, then used two types of penetrating oil, pb blaster, and freeze off and just kept working it back and forth until the oil penetrated then used a 22mm extractor socket with a breaker bar and it finally worked free, with no damage to the threads. The upstream sensor kept off pretty easy. It was the downstream that I trouble with and working from underneath I couldn't get the right torque so I ended up stripping it. In hindsight I should have taken the section of exhaust off, then put one end into a section of pipe like cast iron plumbing and then strapped or clamped that down to something where I could get good torque.

You ruined the thread by applying too much force ahead of the game. You needed to apply heat . High heat makes the metal expand and move , which in turn separates the threads . Even a move of 1/10th of millimeter helps. Whenever I have stuck threats , I resort to heat , unless plastic is involved. In any case , I loved the idea of you went straight to cutting it. People buy those special tools that are slit . You only need that stupid tool if you plan to SAVE the sensor . IF you going through the trouble, just put new sensors, cut off the old sucker. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the video. I have a sensor that is stripped, but can't get it out. When I do, will try this to rethread.

Use heat , lots of it, just watch out not to pierce a hole in the pipe. Heat breaks any thread bonding.

Actually that wasn't too bad. Took me 3 days to take mine off with PB Blaster, heat and cool cycles. You special tool broke mine spreaded and rounded the sensor corners off without the sensor budging. Got it off by cutting one end of a box wrench to insert an long cheater bar from the top. V6 Camry sensor B1, S1 located at the bottom adjacent to the fire wall, not much room to work on without burning fingers.

Stupid question but...if rethreading was to go sideways at a slight angle, would sensor still work or should rethreading be done again?

I must be lucky, never had these issues with o2 sensor. How hard would it have been to drop the exhaust then take out the o2 sensor?
