@jakeblanton68534 жыл бұрын
@@ultimatehandyman -- Probably used the type of thread lock that requires you to heat it to get it to release, but then they put it in a plastic housing that would melt if you heated it to that point... Did you need to remove the screw in order to get to the battery compartment for the key / remote? If so, that's a pretty braindead design...Something that routinely needs to be opened should not have thread lock on it and should have a more robust screw whose head can't be easily stripped out.

I worked and worked trying to unscrew this screw without success. This is how I got the screw out from my 2007 Honda Accord key fob. I used a couple of drops of WD-40 on the screw head and nearby shaft of the key ( three aplications of WD-40 a few hrs apart) and left it to soak for 24 hrs. After about 24 hrs I heated the key shaft with a soldering iron. It only took about 30 seconds to get the shaft very very hot. The screw easily unscrewed with a small Phillips head screw driver. I was amazed at how easy it came out!!

(I notice you mentioned that you were about to intentionally try to drill out the screw head if this didnt work.) I tried using a small vice grip to turn the remaining screw out but there was not enough material to hold on to.
@ultimatehandyman3 жыл бұрын
If you can't grip the remainder of the screw there is not much you can do (have you tried the micro-grabit) If it was me I would use a little glue from a hot melt glue gun to hold the fob together. When you want to remove the battery again you can heat up the key fob using a heat gun or similar and that will soften the glue, which will enable you to change the battery. Thanks for the comment 👍

Out of interest had it not pulled out then and you had none/virtually no head left but still the shaft of the screw in the hole what could you do to get that out as it looks like the screw shaft diameter is smaller than the smallest trend bit? I am sure these kind of videos will come in useful for people for years to come and I don't understand why more manufacturers of tools don't reach out to you, it seems to happen a lot more in the USA with social media producers compared to in the UK.

Once the head has been removed, you can normally remove the top part of the key, then grip the remainder of the screw using mole grips /vice grips or similar. Sometimes I do get approached by tool companies and in the past, I have demonstrated some tools, but I've never taken payment ever, unfortunately some people do take payments and that builds up a degree of suspicion with some reviews.
