I tinker with these weights and found if you want to play a round of golf with no weights without getting debris in the screw holes I buy a plastic screw at Lowe's that will fit the hole. The weight is minimal almost not measurable. The thread sizes are metric.

I removed the 10gram weight from my cobra Aerojet ls, kept the 3gram and added a strip of lead tape near the face and it’s now the longest/fastest driver I have ever hit. It also sounds a lot better lol.

Based on your numbers with various tests of the driver, your peak height and launch angles tend to be super low. If you could consistently launch over 12 degrees you'd be hitting bombs. Maybe loft up? Consistently bottom and necky your strike would benefit from a set up where you start with the ball toe side of the aiming mark on the club head and let the club come back to centre. When you start centre you finish inside because the club path is traveling away from the body at impact.

I also thought his launch angles seemed crazy low but overall distance great.

Can you really count the shots hit with no weight? No criticising but they looked like very poor strikes compared to the others ? I would be interested to see the results from consistently hit shots. I say this because I have this driver and have taken all the weights out and I’ve been smashing it miles with great flight and distance. I’m not sure I go for all the tech the companies try to sell us. Most clubs can be hit well with the a proper strike put on them don’t you think. Hence why I made my first point about poor strike . What do you think please ? 👍🏻

I have an F9 which my misfits were left pulls, I added 4 grams of lead tape over the front 2 gram weight which has reduced the pull shot ( on the range) playing it like that this week before buying a heavier weight. Side note the calculated swing weight went from D0 to D2.

Great video Michael. This touches on the question I have with my TS3. Would love to see the opposite of this video and see what adding weight through heavier weights(4 to 6 grams) does to ball speed and smash factor. My guess is that a few grams heavier then standard weights would bring both up and then past that you'd see diminishing results.

can you give your take on position of weights(lead) on clubhead. Offcourse nobody put the weights on top of the driver head. It disturb the appearance. As for me I dont mind. But is it legal? Is any studies done?....weight on bottom or back is common, how bout weight on top? Will ball trajectory be influenced?
@thomasross12855 жыл бұрын
I do not understand what is going on! Here are the facts so this search ends. First- Shafts used to be tested at 205 grams to designate flex & point of flex deflection. The new standard is 200 grams because the modern head is about 196 grams & adapter weight added to total weight 204-205 grams at standard shaft length 45.00 inches. What you are doing is changing shaft flex & dynamic loft. Because you are capable of swinging faster, you lowered spin & dynamic loft. if the person can only swing 100 mph at 204 & 195 nothing is gained except changing MOI. Now, I'll give you another perspective. I built a M-1 440 2017. The standard weight was 200 grams with adapter. The standard shaft was 45.50 inches. It had extremely low spin & the MOI was poor. I installed a 17 gram weight all the way forward, then I installed a 19 gram weight in the center track 3/4 of the way back. With no weight in the front track the total head weight was 206 grams with adapter. I installed a Fujikura Evol. 1 shaft, 661 at 44.34 inches. The swingweight is now D-3 to D-4. It is the most accurate driver I have with a boring flight with a lot of forward roll. I have 4 driver's M-3, G-400,M-1, & ST-180. There is a reason why Ping builds drivers to 205-208 total weight. their adapter is about 5 grams which is about 3 grams lighter than Taylormade, Callaway adapter being the heaviest of all. Their heads are the lightest of all.

Thanks, this is a very nice experiment! So too light a clubhead may cost loss in the smash factor - higher clubhead speed but lower ball speed. I wonder, then, what the best approximation method would be to lighten the club head to the threshold so to increase clubhead speed and maintain the smash factor in the same time - so ball speed can only go up. Will it be 4 or 6 or 8 grams lighter in the head? Do we need a robot and computer for that? So and so, maybe all the manufacturers have figured that out long ago, no?
@therealbeedubbs353 жыл бұрын
Loss of smash factor when you’re almost wiffing like he was. Would like to see well struck shots towards the center with no weights. I took mine out of my driver and it feels amazing. Can’t wait to hit it.

Im hitting same ball speeds with an epic flash and a mitsubshi stiff flex with same launch angle. But cant get past 260 meters with out absolutely going after it and even then suffering. I can get my ball speed to 170 plus MPH and only just gett past. Do you think its- range balls? Top tracer at the range? Or not enough weight ?
@ZacFries11 ай бұрын
Saw you posted this 2 years ago, but with 170mph ball speed and good angle. Spin is going to be the thing that is killing your distance. Getting spin down to around 2000 will do wonders. Depending on where you play, temperature, ground play etc. On a perfectly hit 170mph ball you can get over 330 yards

Hi Mike, when you say 2 gram weight. Surely the screw weighs more than that. Do you include the weight of the screws in this. Great video by the way 👍
@anthonyamundson41025 жыл бұрын
The screw is part of the weight total. If you put the screw and the plastic piece on a scale it will weigh 2 grams same for the 14 gram weight.
@MichaelNewtonGolf5 жыл бұрын
The screw is practically the 2 grams, the diamond shaped disc is very light plastic. So yes, the weight includes the screw.

Did the exact same thing on my R9. Wanted to see what MWT could actually do. With weights out, the strikes were ALL in the heel, meaning that the CoG changed towards the hosel. With 16 gr weight in the toe, strikes were ALL centered and perfect shots. And that's how it has stayed.
