Hi,in a hp pagewide enterprise color 556dn printer is the duplex module necessary for the printer to work? Or is it just for double-sided printing?

Just received the duplex module. There appears white "padding" or "packing" inside the lower chamber. Does it need to be removed? If so, how?

Both. It's called a duplex module but it serves as the waste ink container also, hence the horrific gunkiness you see on the rollers :) Tbh I don't know why their labeling never mentions that this is its dual function.

When I push the Back Button one time, it disappears. Therefore, I cannot push it 4 times. Anyone else have this issue, and what do you do about it? Thanks!

+Danielle Pierce Please follow these steps for removing and replacing duplex module: 1. Press the latch to open the left door. 2. Grab the duplex module and then pull it out of the printer. NOTE: When removing the duplex module avoid making direct contact with the black cylinder to prevent ink smear on skin or clothes. Keep the duplex module level to avoid spilling any maintenance ink. When removing the duplex module, do not let the bottom of the duplex module touch or rest on the ribs on the left door, which will damage them and might lead to paper damage and jams. 3. Detach the top of the output bin from the printer, and then pull the bin up to remove it.

Thanks, but your reply did not answer my question. I successfully installed the duplex module. My issue was with clearing out the error message on the control panel after installing the duplex module. After trying repeatedly, I realized that when you push the Back Button one time, it disappears. You should then push that space on the panel 3 more times (even though you no longer see the Back Button). It would be helpful if the video explained this. Thank you. All is well here now. :-)

I replaced the Duplex Module, but every time I print I'm still getting an error "Print Quality Warning. To maintain print quality, remove and re-install the duplex model." Anyone know how to fix this error?
