Thank you for this info about Tolumnias! I fell in love with them the moment I saw your video featuring them on your balcony! They're still on my wish list! Also, the brightness contrast looks 100% better! Thanks for all your fantastic work!!

OMG! Tolumnias!😂 I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOVE tolumnias as they are easy to grow! I found that tolumnias (for me) grow better in inorganic media than organic. THANKS SOOOOO much for making this video. This helped me ALOT because I thought the small black freckles were something bad. I couldn't find articles or forums of these anywhere😢 THANKS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOER THIS VIDEO AND I HOPE YOU HAVE THE BEST HOLIDAY EVER!!!!!!!!!😋

Hey Danny, I've really become interested in Tolumnias, I'm extra addicted. Any updates on this sick Tolumnia? I'm really curious about how it's doing.

Hello Danny,I recomend you to mount the plant to a pice of wood it will do much better for you.All my tolumnia died since I put them in pot but the once I did mounted looks very happy.Kind greeting

+Utopisimo211 hi thanks for the advice, why exactly do you think it will do better mounted? What external factors would influence what for the orchid more specifically?
@finflwr7 жыл бұрын
It would most likely be because of the airflow (not just air gaps) around the roots imo. Keeps the roots healthier. My orchids in general do better with constant fans going; less leaf problems, fungus and bacterial wise. Anyway, it makes sense for plants growing in nature up in trees to be adapted to airflow, some don't like the absence of it. It's what they're evolved to thrive in. Some cope better than other without that airflow, they are ok out of the wind so to speak : )

Hi Danny! So I have a bit of a dilemma! I received an orchid for my birthday in summer which had beautiful blooms. But once the blooms were finished she hasn't done anything at all! No root growth, no new leaves, no spikes nothing! I even tried potting her in sphagnum moss and nothing! Is there something wrong with my phal???

It's so nice that your dendrobium amethystoglossum is preparing to bloom! Looking forward to updates! Thanks for showing your tolumnias. About the spots on your tolumnia's leaves, could it be phyllosticta? In vandas, phyllosticta looks a lot like that. Were all of your tolumnias of the same size when you bought them? Or was the orange one bought later? When you bought the others from Schwerter, did they have only one growth/fan? I got a tolumnia dapple from Schwerter in September, because I enjoyed so much the one you have. It only has one growth. I don't know how fast they grow. I had a tolumnia before some 3 years ago, but I mounted it and it died of dehydration. It is also possible the wood I used was toxic to orchids. It was a piece of a local tree, I can't remember what. But this time I decided to pot the tolumnia. Mine is in a smaller clay pot, with fine sponge rock and charcoal, and because of that I water it every morning. The roots stay green for most of the day and it seems to be doing nicely. But probably I will have to pot it into a bigger pot when it grows. It's nice to see they grow well in seramis. They seem to enjoy having the roots moist much longer than the books say. I though seramis would be too wet for too long, but they seem to enjoy it a lot.

Oh I think you might be right with the spotting, I have some spots on my Vanda as well, pretty harmless but unsightly. I bought the orange together with the dapple, the corona was my first one, they all had one mature fan and maximum a new growth, not big plants at all, they grow decently fast, 2 fans per year or so in my old environment, we'll see how fast they are here. Yes I have read the same things, they don't like to be moist and so on but I have to say my experience was quite different. I tried keeping them mounted.. ish.. in those little baskets they come with, no medium. They hated them, roots were desiccating, leaves wrinkling, even with daily soaks. In pots they've always done better as they had moisture available for longer, at least one full day of moisture and they did better. Well since the pots are tiny they dry out in 3-4 days now, it seems to still be ok for them :)

It's nice to know they grow so fast. This also means I probably potted mine in a too tiny pot and next year it will need repotting. I might try seramis next time, or maybe even a mix of seramis with the small grade spongerock, so it will dry a little slower than now. I don't like those little baskets they come in either. Probably it would only work in those kinds of greenhouse with extremely high humidity levels. My impression of phyllosticta is that it isn't too serious or dangerous. I don't know if it could weaken the plant, or maybe it just appears when the plant is already weakened. My vanda got phyllosticta after it lost most of its roots when the old media got bad. Before that the leaves were fine.

Just like brassavolas, tolumnias hate pots no matter how good the drainage is... maybe she doesnt like the way you planted them. Saludos desde centroamerica Dani!

+MemeYto Hi, what exactly do you mean by don't like? What is the actual problem in your opinion?
@jmothim7 жыл бұрын
it is that some orchids just prefer to be mounted. It happens with brassavolas and tolumnias that they just hate pots. But I know you prefer pots anyway :)

living room table :DDDD I once had the absurd thought that you could actually mount a phal upside down in your shower cubicle (provided that the bathroom has a window with enough light), and in no time the orchid would stick to the wall by its roots and be quite happy xD (I don´t want to try proving it but theoretically... phals are strong.)

I have 3 tolumnia growing in the same conditions. Only 1 is blooming. I know the other two bloomed before I got them. Any idea why only 1 bloomed?
@MissOrchidGirl7 жыл бұрын
Hi, well maybe the other 2 needed more time to adjust? if they look healthy and vigorous it's just a waiting game sometimes, just make sure they are ok health wise, if they are then all is ok, just give them a bit more time. Also look at the size of the fans, if the other 2 have produced smaller fans than previous ones they just need more time to adapt from whatever stress they've been through :)

Hi Danny. You should check your camera settings. The focusing is just terrible and some videos lose their charm because of this. To be honest I miss your old videos, they were so "friendly".
@MissOrchidGirl7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ivanova, thanks for the feedback, will be more careful ;) it's kinda hard to see the viewfinder of the camera when it's behind me, happens a lot when I repot things :) the quality is better than the old camera though, you can see it when you turn on HD options, colors are a lot more true to reality too, pros and cons I guess :)
@Tsveti_Orchids7 жыл бұрын
Hi Danny, I did not mean to offend you or something, I just miss the old quick focusing. I watch the videos in HD tho, so no comparison there. :)
@MissOrchidGirl7 жыл бұрын
+Cveti Ivanova no worry I didn't get upset :p yep it was easier to film too but in low light that camera really was horrible.. I'll see what I can do with the focusing, automated focusing makes horrible sounds that's why I keep it on manual.. Or maybe Santa will bring a new lense lol

Your videos are nicely focused. Perhaps it's a screen problem for you.
