Removing Double Blockage That Almost Washed Out The Road Completely

I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. As soon as there's a heavy rain, there's a lot of branches and debris that will clog those pipes again. The company needs to do a major cleanup of the stream bed to prevent further damage to their road.

My guess why that secondary pipe is higher so settlement doesn't enter. Being off the bottom of the stream the stream acts like a sump so sand sinks and only water enters secondary pipe. I've seen it done with 3 & 4 pipes. Each pipe progressively gets higher. Tom Dutkiewicz Connecticut

Just doesn't make sense that they put the pipes in without considering the course of the water. As you pointed out, the stream is slamming into one side of the smaller pipe in particular and digging out the ground underneath it--what a waste! Thanks for clearing out the new pileup. Hope the DOT manages to get an excavator in to take care of the bigger pile soon.

Just an idea when the steel pipe is aging but not failed that MIGHT be a sane place to use the plastic pipe as a liner. OR when installing spray both sides with bed liner material to buy a few more years of service, that might also provide some resistance to crushing

Normally during culvert clearings, I like seeing the water level behind the blockage go down over time to show how effective the work is, but it's probably for the best that it wasn't the case in this situation, since Post got to it before it became a problem again.
