Removing Engraved Names from Your Fountain Pen

1) That is not a "pen knife". That is a snap blade utility/box knife. A "Pen Knife" is generally a small 2 7/8 inch to 3 1/4 inch closed double ended slipjoint, with either a clip point, or more commonly spear point primary blade, and a pen blade (look like a small spear point) secondary blade. 2) That name wasn't "engraved". It was painted on. Painting isn't engraving. Engraving involves the removal of material to make the design or letters. Engraving is slightly below the surface, never slightly above. If that name had really been engraved, you would have to refinish the cap's finish because you would need to go deeper than the lacquer or whatever is on the surface of the cap to remove the engraving. If the cap is polished plastic, you would have to blend on where the engraving was and re-polish to the original luster. (not recommended nor suggested for celluloid, as that may cause it to start outgassing.

Hello do you know if laser etching and laser engraving is the same thing ? I really hate how there's a massive printing on knife set the pharma reps gave us to try to bribe us. I don't want to cook and every time be reminded about their brand . When I brush my hand over the logo and company name I feel that it's raised. I used a utility blade to see if I could remove it but it's on there after 3 mins of scratching. Any clue how to get rid it guys ?🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I don't mind an engraved name, it shows that the pen had a previous owner, kind of like a previous life, to me that is intrestine. I have books that were given as gifts and awards from 'Corporations' etc . . . I don't know these people but, I often wonder where these items have been, where they were kept, the 'documents' that were signed, letters written, etc . . . but that's just 'me'🙃🙂

I did a job recently at a building that its going to be demolished (moved out or abandoned offices) and found an engraved montblanc meisterstuck rollerball pen that has an engraving on it. Not that into pens and was thinking either selling it (don't know where) or trying to get rid of the engraving

There should various avenues of selling pens. If unsure, keep the engraving... even an engraved pen can fetch a fair amount of value. Lucky find!

If you ever sell this pen I do hope you disclose the material removal from the cap, I've been swindled several times in the past on rare Parker 51s and Sheaffer's with the tell tale undisclosed flat spot. I do not remove engravings from pens, personally I find the flats spots worse than the personalisation plus the name engraving adds to the pens history and charm. My most prized Parker 51 first year model has a name and military rank engraving adding to the pens wartime history as well as it's wartime manufacture (1941) .

If you still see visible scratches, you will need to go down to a lower video quality. Start again from 144p.

Thank you for asking :) Yes. I used the dull side of the blade so that it won’t “over-scratch” the resin, but it’s sharp enough to remove the name embossing.
