Removing fan from water pump on 2002 Chevy Express 3500

Removing the fan can be a real pain from the water pump I used a bungee cord to be my third hand and put tension on the Belt then tapped the tool to get the nut free
Learned I don't carry a large enough wrench, so if this would have happened on the side of the road I'd have been out of luck

Here’s my issue. 99 Chevy express 1500. Would run fine for 20 mins then just die. I would pull over turn it off then turn it back on and roll for about 3 mins until it turns off. And the cycle would repeat. So when it started last year the dealer said i needed a chemical flush on radiator and block as it was rusty as crap in there all brown. (regular mom and pop mechanic said head gasket) so i bought a new rad and thermostat and boom the truck ran great up until now (12 months later) i replaces the radiator and this time used a 150 t stat. But this time it isn’t fixing my issue. Could it be the water pump? Had anyone dealt with this???
