Much better. The house I’m in (rental) has been boarded but the spindles are gone and it’s just hardboard.

Just removed my plywood on my stairs because of your video and I have beautiful spindles and no missing ones! So into sanding and painting ❤️

That house is very similar to our 1930’s semi and I’ve been wanting to open up the staircase since we moved in 15 years ago but never had the balls to do it. After watching your vid I was completely blown away by how beautiful it was underneath and you inspired me to finally crack on and give it a go. The results have been amazing! We have the same wonderful spindles as yours, all in perfect condition 😍 what a waste to keep them hidden and covered up for so long!! Thank you 🙏🏻☺️

That's amazing they are still there. Yes I have no idea why people would want to cover these up. Well done for doing it. 👍

Stairs look so much better, as do everything, especially the amazing door! We have just bought a thirties semi with similar panelling and this has given me the confidence to remove it! Thanks :)

Good luck with it all. I hope you find the original wood behind it like we did.

You just inspired me to have a go at this. I now have my parents 1928 built house after their passing and many features appear to be the same. Thank you for your knowledge and sharing this info. Best wishes from Chester 👍👍

I really like the look of the spindles. Whether they’re painted or restored to a wood finish, I think it will be great. I’ve enjoyed watching all you’ve done to the house. Good work 🤓

Strange that the nice work was covered by sheets of wood

Yeah, just a thing they did back in the day as that was the fashion. It was the same with all the doors.

I’m wanting to remove the hardboard from mine. Although I know it’s just one sheet of hardboard. Once that’s removed can I place spindles in?
@LCWDIY3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Yes you can put new spindles and spacers in. I think you can just cut the spindles to size, pin them in place and add a spacer between the to help hold the top and bottom in place. I'm no expert and not sure what your stairs look like but I think that is the most common way. Good luck and have fun with it.

people in the 50s and 60s and 70s were disgusting for paneling up stuff trying to make it " modern "

in 30 years people will be saying the same about tearing down walls to make huge kitchen diner rooms and huge bathrooms and only doing 3 different kitchens all from IKEA.
