Get a wel bonded core, decent ferrule, resin cement that crown and you should be fine

I have seen full cuspal coverage amalgam restorations that were actually pretty good. I did a few in my Air Force days that weren't too bad. It's so much easier and predictable to just do a cad/cam crown these days
