Thanks for noticing that! Part of what got me started with this channel was, when I looked up how to repair things, they always used expensive tools that really only had one use.

the wire wheel driven by air grinder tool can be dangerous as the so called grinder tool spines so fast it flings the wires off the brush witch can b imbedded into your eye, safety glasses are a MUST and need to worn when performing any clean up of rust or using any hazardous products.

Sand blaster takes good material out. A good chemical treatment for rust is phosphoric acid. It converts rust into something more stable black in colour. Then, you can wire wheel it and clean with paint thinner. After that, primer, sanding, paint and you are good to go.

I'm assuming you're in the US? In the uk, we have an organisation called "Freecycle". It's fantastic, and it's been up and running for years. You advertise what you want to give away, then just wait for a notification from someone who is interested in owning that item! You then just arrange a date and time for them to come and collect it! No money is exchanged at all. I've given away things such as a hedgehog box and bird feeders....a teacher from a local primary school came and collected them, as their school was making a Wildlife Garden. Over the years, from other people, I've been given 3 small Box shrubs, a hand held vacuum cleaner, a double bed, and an old glass topped table for the garden! I wish I could renovate the table, but I'm disabled with illness/pain, so it's extremely rusty, but it's still going strong 17 years later! With the wee vacuum cleaner and the shrubs, I told the people that I really couldn't say how long it might take me to go and collect it, as I'm very ill.....and they both kindly drove them over to me! Really nice community of people. I would encourage you to do some research online, as I'm sure such schemes exist in the US. It's particularly good for people without much money, who are trying to set up home.
