Bought this 454 motor recently, it was left outside and was starting to rust. We used the "electrolysis" method. It works with any metal that is rusting

A lot of people are asking how long. Electrolysis is not a damaging process, so basically leave it in until the rust is removed. Is that glyptal red I see there..

I'm trying to save a 327 that was parked in a field for over 20 years, only to find out the reason it parked, blown head gasket. Just started on one head, and the one valve rusted open, the block all came apart except the one piston, same cylinder. The heads are 194's. watching the head bubble now. Thanks for video.

Maybe this a stupid question but I have a rusted and seized 454. Can I put the whole short block in to help unstick it?
@Wildkat-14 жыл бұрын
I used a clean metal barrel ( 55 gal.), mixed the same solution with hot water , suspend the block & heads in the barrel ...then connect a good 12v battery on a charger ...it really cleans much better & faster ..!

I appreciate the video don't get me wrong but you did some emphasis on the coolant passages in the beginning.. not sure why you didn't show them at all afterwards. From the little you showed, it looked pretty rusted stil. Nevertheless good job and thanks for sharing.

works great , done that on a smaller scale using a computer powersupply a tub and basicly a pipe of metal ,one small thing of caution , the gasses produced are oxigen and hydrogen gas , same as with overcharging a lead acid battery , that stuff is flamable , use a ventilated space btw boiling the block in a vinigar water soap mix does about the same thing , takes the scale out of the internals to comes out clean as a wissle

@@daviddiaz7600 just used water and soda untill it conducted enough to see bubbling from the part i derusted , i derusted a cast iron tool plate with it could use soap i guess to get the grease off but i could get messy if it starts foaming

@Dingens643 жыл бұрын
the higher the DC voltage, the higher the gas formation. That's why they are using a fan to remove the hydrogen

12v battery charger or power supply, only a small current needed like 2 amps to 10 amps (depending on size of part).. use a sacrificial piece of steel and attach the positive side of the electrical current, put the negative side on the piece you want rust removed from. Put washing soda or salt in the water to allow conductivity of electricity through the water.. then turn on and leave until rust is gone.. Do not let the two metals touch, watch for heat over time as the water may heat up a fair amount..you can also add a little vinegar to aid the process. Do it in a ventilated area as does gas a little, hydrocarbon so keep away from flame / spark. Stay away from anything zinc as it will cause cancerous fumes.

@@MortifiedU Thanks a lot I’m still confused He had 4 connectors 1 positive on the bar 1 negative to the chain holding the block Another positive to the second bar Looked like the second negative the the same bar with the first positive
