Well, I'll be! I just did your trick on my Mercedes E350!!! MB had some special $400 tool to pull it but I just used the strap/hammer and voila! Had the brake rotor in front of it (which I wrapped with a towel) so it didn't go flying anywhere. Worked awesome!!! THANK YOU! Made the job super easy.

Just used a version of this for my atv with the inner cv being the only thing left for the axle. Placed a clamp on each side, wrapped a strap around both clamps and swung the hammer, sucker popped right out! Thank you so much!!

Thanks so much for this tip! I tried this yesterday on my 2017 Polaris Ranger's rear cv axle shaft and it worked! I used a sledge hammer and a tow strap. It took me about 20ish swings, but it eventually came out. This saved me from bringing it into the shop. Thanks again!

Tie another piece to something heavy the other side with a bit of slack enough to allow the shaft to come out but not fly like super shaft & smash something like a leg . Otherwise good tip .

It worked! A makeshift slide hammer, was trying to get it off with pry bars etc and saw this video, had to try for a good 5 minutes and harder each time, but it finally came out. Was about to take it to a mechanic :(

I got all the parts in for the total rebuild besides those rods lol. So I'm just waiting to get those in so I can put it back together. (I'm just praying I can remember where all the bolts go. God knows I'll have extra when I'm done lmfao)

Risk snapping the cv axle in half and you will end up with the inner spline still stuck in the trans. This is a good method if you are planning on replacing the cv axle

I grinded a slit into it and used the claw part of my hammer to yank it out like a nail. it worked

Thats what i have done in the past as well. Sometimes they come right out by hand and sometimes you could be dragging the quad around the garage by the axle. I used a strap and full sledge and a bungee cord to hang the axle as straight as possible and then pull. I didnt give full swing but started lightly and then increased swing till it popped.

interesting and simple, again a few ways to remove the axle, depending on the rust and seizure some methods will work, if not you need to escalade to other methods.. hard to say a single method works everytime since it’s a case by case basis, will add to my list, thanks

I used a rope tied around the axle and wrapped the rope around myself and tugged while also using my body weight. Fell on my ass but I was laughing because it was finally out.

@@jakesatvrepairandmore1346 I ended up getting a 3 or 3.5 inch muffler clamp from autozone and clampdd my tow strap directly to part of the axle before the cv joint. Pretty much the part thats the size of a soup can.I still had to beat the ever living hell out of it to get it out.

Tried it and didn't. So went to plan B. Items used: 1.Jeep trailer hitch chain hole 2. A Come along 3. Extra watch strap tied around the axle and tied in to a loop 4.Vice grips. 5. 5pound sledge.. Hook the come along to the jeep, hook to the loop tied to the axle. Add tension, use Vice grip and clamp to axle and use sledge and hit vice grip. Worked like a charm.

I just had this problem a couple days ago with my car. Ended up welding a piece of 1x20 plate steel to it, throwing a pipe over it, welding a piece perpendicular, and slamming the pipe up against the perpendicular piece got her loose.

is that just one end of the cv axle though? if the part that goes into differential is stuck take some vice grips and clap on the metal boot going in diff and use old axle bar as a slide hammer.

The ol "Guten tight" method if you're scrolling through comments, go get the slide hammer, yeah you can be a dumb and impatient but you risk damaging the rear diff. You can rent the slide hammer and return it full refund

1. He isn't demonstrating on a truck unless my eyes deceive me. 2. Having said that however... Why wouldn't it? Both CV axles in quads, side by sides, cars and trucks are designed to be taken off by hand in normal circumstances. Most people tug truck and car cv joints out by hand as their suppose to. However sometimes they need some encouragement and better leverage. That is why a slide tool was invented for all vehicles. This is just another version. Funny thing is you were so confident in your comment.
