Being an IoT developer is more than just writing software, you also need to be comfortable with hardware. I have a board that wasn't quite designed right so I need to pull a couple surface-mount resistors off of it. Let's jump ion and give a couple methods a try.

Even when I'm desoldering things, I've started using some no-clean flux. It seems to help distribute the heat from the iron to the solder a bit better for me. I picked up a syringe-style dispenser of gel flux for easier application directly on the target components. It may cause the component you are removing to stick to the iron tip. So, if you are reusing the component (e.g., reversing it), look there if it goes missing.
