REMOVING The DOOR STOPS On a 2018 JL

Removing the door stops from my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL! Not Only did it bother me that these were scratching up my paint BADLY, but I also found them to be really ANNOYING to remove so many bolt to take my doors off! Now that I have them REMOVED I will be able to take my doors on and OFF in just a COUPLE MINUTES!

You do realize that these are designed to recess into the door (push them in) if you dont want to use them. No need to rip the door apart. Too little too late i know.

I figured it would hit the door frame since I didn’t think it went far back enough into the door, either way putting them back in didn’t take to long anyway.. I guess it’s a good instructional video for whoever needs to replace that part though 🤷🏼‍♂️

You can’t push them in by hand. The weight of the door helps it go in.

I’m sorry but this is a life saver if you live anywhere that it gets windy, can’t tell you how many times on any of my previous jeeps I have had them slam on my leg or foot, not to mention it’s nice having the door stay open when your hands are full.

I actually like the door stop feature. It's just one bolt to remove to get the door off (I never put the hinge bolts back once I take them out). I never hit the cowl on my JK but it was annoying on a windy day or if you were parked facing up hill fighting the door as you're trying to load something or get in the Jeep. Mojito is the best color. I have people comment on mine all of the time. Had a guy at a gas station say that it had to be custom because Chrysler would never put a cool color like that on a vehicle. LOL!

That’s funny about the gas station! And I just took they off because personally I take my doors on and off so often that it just makes it so much quicker to not have to deal with that bolt. I might put them back on in the winter though. I also am not happy about the paint getting all chipped up from them, so I will have to retouch all the spots it messed up and I will probably put clear mask over them for when I do eventually out the stops back in!

Oh yeah totally get it. If you take them on and off a lot it would be a pain. I usually take mine off for a week at a time, depending on the weather. I will take your advice and put some clear mask on mine before it happens.

Yeah. I have a 2021 gladiator. And first day I took the doors off that stupid arm thing scratch my paint just like your. If they could of just put a rubber boot over it that would make a world of difference when it hits on the paint.

I’ve found that you can use paracord, put it through the eyelet and then use the bracket for where the strap goes for leverage and voila! Works like a charm!

I still think its funny how people say they prevent the cowl from getting damaged. That is false, just like with the JK when you take the door straps off, the cowl getting damaged is the same possibility. I see someone already commented that they push in so I won't harp on that. The info was good for window removal and other info.

If you watched the video until the end, you can see that I explain that they actually raised the mirror, and because the fenders are a little wider, the cowl will not get dented on the jl when the strap in removed unlike the jk

You could always cover that door hinge piece with tape and it most likely wouldn’t have scratched the paint.

You’re removing one of the best new features of the JL.. and it’s called a “detent” not hinge.. every JK and prior Jeep owner that has looked over my JL is envious of them.. I think it’s either stupid of you to remove them or you’re just lazy.. one more bolt, really guy?? To each their own I guess. Every village......

I knew I was going to get comments like this, but again it’s all personal preference. I prefer to take my doors off without taking any bolts off, makes it much faster and simpler for me and my needs. Other prefer to have the door detent bc apparently everyone parks on inclines and declines all the time. But also I foresee a lot of jls rusting in those areas because of the paint scratches. If I ever wanted to put them back in it takes 5 min a door so it doesn’t bother me at all.

If you take this bolt and hinge off you can put a strap that mollie solutions makes and it lets the rear door open a lot wider. getting the rear doors is awful there's no room getting in if its a adult that a big guy its almost impossible dude

Silly to remove when the risk is greater for dents with taking them off. Then your whole process is far too involved instead on leaving the hinges and letting them do what they’re designed to do. Two extra bolts is a time killer for you? 😂

An extra bolt to take off is not a huge problem. Using his logic, horses and buggy whips didn’t have any bolts to worry about so that’s best, why did they invent a car with hundreds of bolts.

Wow, that is a terrible hinge design. I think the JK aftermarket ones have a quick release. You would think they would have incorporated a quick release feature for the JLs.

Seems like a very Karen thing to complain about. Added time and frustration? Get an extension and don't be careless. I'd rather have the door stop than having to worry about swinging my door open to fast
