Part how-to, part weight reduction. In this video I continue my quest at seeing how light I can make my 2020 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 in preparation for The Big Showdown 2 KZbinr Callout. We go through what's involved with removing all of the rear trim panels, the rear speakers, and the rear seat belts, something that would need to mostly happen if you were to install a rear seat delete kit. After removing it all we weigh everything up to see how much weight we were able to shave.
Chapters:

Thanks! I really appreciate that. That's another benefit of what I'm doing with weight reduction, I get to learn more about my car as I'm taking stuff apart. Back when I was in Air Force tech training, they did something similar. We had a few decommissioned F-16's for training and at one point the instructors literally gave us free reign over them. They told us we could take apart anything we wanted. We learned a LOT in those couple days of tearing F-16's apart.

The exhaust noise isn't bad at all and I like it. It's the wind and road noise at high speeds that gets loud and at slow speeds its the fuel pumps. And I haven't even pulled the carpet out yet!

Loving all your videos and curious about trunk weight removal. I was looking to remove the trunk lid mat. Is that wise or are there wires that require it to be covered? I prefer the look without a cover
@Scavenger1320
@Scavenger1320 Жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the cover that's on the lid itself, there's really nothing there it's protecting or that would require the cover. I haven't had mine on in over 2 and a half years now. There is one thing to be careful of though and I just learned this the hard way. If you remove the cover make sure not to overload the trunk or put something too tall in it. Without the cover in the way there's nothing to protect the thin sheet metal on the lid. I was just looking at my trunk the other week and noticed a small dent in it going outwards! I'm not sure when it happened but the only possible way it could have gotten there is from the trunk lid being closed onto something that was a bit too tall. I'm guessing it happened last time I drove my car to the track in Houston and had it loaded up with all my track gear.
@HLopez96
@HLopez96 Жыл бұрын
Gotcha, makes total sense. Was also thinking about removing the whole panel that covers the battery as well. But maybe that’ll all dent too easy. I don’t use the trunk at all really. I appreciate the help /quick response man!

I just found a guy who makes the bypass wiring plugs for the front seats (in case you want to run a lightweight racing seat) and the passenger seat belt. Let me know if you'd like one so you can get that seat belt out without throwing an SRS code.

Do you have the matching green Durango and 1320? I replied on FB but wasn't sure if that was you. I'm guessing you found SRT Demon on FB? I got the plugs from him for both front seats and for the washer reservoir. He made a couple wired resistors for me to use on my passenger front seat belt too.

i don't understand, so you're stripping out your car to reduce weight to increase acceleration? you're minimizing ride quality and comfort and practicality to shave seconds? its a hellcat, how fast do you need to go? im not meaning to be a prick im genuinely curious, i have an r/t that im about to make heavier with dynamat lol
@Scavenger1320
@Scavenger1320 2 жыл бұрын
It's really personal preference. Ride quality isn't changed other than noise level, but the same would be true for people that get an exhaust system or delete mufflers. The only thing less comfortable is the Kirkey seat and I could swap that out for the stock seat in less than 5 minutes. And practicality? Well, even stock there's not much practical about a 2 door coupe with almost 500 horsepower and suspension tuned for the dragstrip complete with a transbrake! If practicality was an issue I'd have gotten a GT Charger. They have 4 doors, lots of space, more power than needed for daily driving, awd for max traction and safety, and they get the best mileage of all the powertrain options. Also, this isn't a hellcat, it's a 1320, and I have set goals that this is all going towards. I'm trying to run 1/4 mile times with a stock 392 motor that most people think is impossible. And one day when I feel like putting it back to stock, I can easily put it all back together on a Saturday. Everyone's different and has different priorities. I don't understand why people would want to turn their car into a gigantic mobile speaker that leaves its passengers deaf, but there's nothing wrong with that if that's what they like.
