I folded the wheelchair lift out onto the ground and then disconnected all the electrical to that electric box that controlled it. Then I took the cover plate off the center in between the two arms and cut the wires and when I cut the wires I cut the hydraulic fluid hose and it squirted everywhere but, it also made it possible for me a 59 year old woman with a back injury to just slide the whole system out on top of the platform of the lift it was so easy. Now I just got to wait for the guy to come and take it so he can scrap it

Thank you so much! I’m converting a shuttle bus to a food truck and wanted to know how to remove the handicap lift!

Yours looked so easy to get out. I hope mine will be also. Thanks for the advice.

Thanx for sharing this! I am in the beginning of removing the lift. What did you do to disconnect from the battery and wires, etc.
@BibiaBus4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! The wires got taken out too. You'll have to spend plenty of time tracing wires to see what can be removed and what can't just to make sure you don't tear out the wrong wire, but in the end it's worth cleaning up the original wiring setup.

What did you do with the connecting wires that were left behind?
@BibiaBus4 жыл бұрын
I tore them out! At that point I didn't know much about 12v wiring but they all come from the control panel up at the front so that the driver can have some control over the rig. Since I didn't need the lift I didn't need the wires. Just make sure you don't tear out wires for your back lights!

My son removed the lift from his bus as well. Now he can’t get it to go into drive. Is it related. I know there’s a safety mechanism that doesn’t let you go into drive while the lift is deployed. Is there a way to deactivate that? Ok so we figured it out for anyone else having the same problem. Here’s the fix. There’s an electrical panel box above the driver seat he disconnected one wire at a time and reconnected it if it didn’t work until he found the one that worked. He said he also needs to push the brake in very hard but it went in drive yay!!! 😂

Sorry I couldn't reply before you got a fix! Indeed, the fail safe wiring in these buses is a total rats nest of cables and figuring out what disables what can be a total challenge. Glad you found a solution!

Reality check: So you know how much one of those things cost? I too have a lift to remove. It's similar to yours but perhaps a bit newer. I've done another one before on a '95 International Bus. That one came out w/o problems by disconnecting the bolts while the platform was on a pallet on the ground. Now I'm dealing with an 2011 vehicle and a Recon Klear View lift. The whole bus/lift looks still brand new. To get to the point: I called Recon to get an idea how much these things cost in order to come up with an asking price once I have it removed. Scrapping it would be criminal because a new Klear View type costs $10k. And that's just the lift. Want one installed by the Recon Company? Brace yourself, because that will be another $5k extra. I assume that would include the various hardware needed to safeguard students inside the bus. There may be some nonprofit elder care or similar organisations who depend on donations to acquire vans etc for transporting lesser abled persons, children etc who would take that off your hands, possibly pay a modest amount of money to have it installed in one of their vans. Or you could donate it to such an organization, estimate a reasonable value and use that as a tax deduction (I'm sure Donnie Trump would ;- ) No matter what, scrapping it does not seem a best choice. Good luck.

What are doing with lift
@BibiaBus4 жыл бұрын
I scrapped it. Because of the way that I started to remove it, I had to disassemble it in order to get it completely out which left it beyond repair.
