This is my first video on my new channel on KZbin. This is showing my method of removing varnish from my boat. Future videos will include the next steps (sanding, taping, varnishing)
There is about 15-20 years of built up varnish on the wood. It is starting to lift in places. The only fix is to remove all the varnish and start over! I will upload more videos of the process as I progress. So far I have spent about 23 hours removing most of the varnish. I figure I have about 3-5 more hours left.
After the varnish is removed, I will need to sand the wood to get to fresh wood, then wipe down with acetone to remove the surface oils in the teak.
After the wipe down, I will varnish with Epifanes Woodfinish Gloss, a high build varnish that allows overcoating without sanding. It is breathable, which is perfect for teak. A topcoat of Epifanes Gloss varnish will be the last step.

Did you say 800 degrees or 180 degrees?

Yes, I use 800 degrees F to strip varnish. Doesn't seem to burn it as much as higher temps do, so it can come off in sheets instead of just disintegrating. This gun does have a digital readout
