Covers with Ren's rap part in-between. The mashup is so cool because how the three parts are woven together. The Police riff introduced while covering Back on 74, elements from Back on 74 during the rap part and then also elements from Back on 74 by the call and response when he sings "message in a bottle". So well done and great singing by Ren and the women. Ren showing how versatile singer he is. Some background: Ren has a massive experience as a busker (street performer), both alone and in a busking band, The Big Push, in Brighton. A lot of songs can be found on KZbin. And as a busker has done a lot of covers (also original songs). And often busking, he does all kinds of mashups. Some close to the original but sometimes quite different takes. Reggie and ska elements are often strong, in his covers and his original songs. And the pure joy of performing is obvious. So here he is doing what he has always loved to do. His own music usually is quite different from his busking. He kind of promised his fans to do several songs like this. He also did a mashup of Fred Again, an artist he loves. EDM music, but in less than 5 minutes, Ren covers 5 (if I remember right) Fred Again songs just singing and playing the classical guitar.

Great reaction, Ren can never be pigeon-holed, rap one minute, rock the next, bardcore after that followed by Gregorian chants. That's what makes him so special.

I do like your honesty even as a renegade, this song is great to us as we have listened to his deeper and more conscience mashing songs that get you thinking for days on end so for us to see Ren just having fun makes us smile. Please stay on the Ren train for a couple more stops and give his trilogies a listen. the tale of Jenny and screech (in full) and his money game series plus his sick boy and troubles as they both give insight to his struggles hes has most of his life with his misdiagnosis of his Lyme disease. Also as said below, his band are awesome and all of them are talented singers too. Thank you for your reaction

As a fellow Yes aficionado, I appreciate your honesty and musical taste, Growing up listening to them in the 70's, they were my favorite band--and still are to this day. So I'm not gonna hate on you describing this mashup as "just OK." If you had described Hi Ren as just OK, THEN I'd question your discernment lol. I never thought I'd be a fan of a rapper, but Ren is SO much more. He's a true artist. Believe me, Ren has far more in his musical repertoire that will amaze you. Take The Tale Of Jenny and Screech and the Money Game trilogy, for starters. But Ren, as one of the most diverse artists I've seen in my 66 years on this planet, also has what I would describe as "palate cleanser" songs that are still musically impressive, but also just fun. Travel deep enough into his catalog and you'll see what I mean. Also check out his band, The Big Push. One constant I've noticed with Ren is his ability to put aside ego and surround himself with other talented musicians, videographers, etc.

Oh, Hi Ren def more impactful. He did the areangement, wrote the rap and performed it in 10 days. He was paying tribute to groups he enjoyed. He also did a 5 song mashup ,retake of Fred Again songs, his favorite artist of 2023. Just him and his guitar. I like that one more than this one. Not his lyrics but all his soul. It's ok if you dont rock with everything!😂 ❤still sending Renegade love! Thanks for giving it a listen. I also love his newest drop. An original again..Troubles acoustic version.

I'm not a big Ren fan but I actually prefer Ren's cover of Back On 74 over the original. I like what he did with the mashup as well. Most of all, I dig your tv. It just needs some cool retro images on the cool retro screen.

Knowing Ren's history of his struggles with mental health, I suspect there IS a deeper meaning/reason he chose those those particular verses of Message in a Bottle. Just like his Fed Again Mashup, and chosing "I've Been Lost" (and knowing how he had really connected with that song when he saw it live) to include in the mashup.

In his defense, "retake" is a term used by Ren and no one else. For all he knew that could have been part of the title.

it's called a mash up like fred again - because ren takes pieces of songs that mean something to him and mixes them up - they are both police songs and that could be why he picked what he liked- and just to make it flow properly - mashups are something to get used to - they are not covers or retakes
