I like that Ren doesn't "dumb down" his lyrics. He can use words that have no business fitting into a rhythm or flow but somehow he makes it work. This is a huge thing for Ren but also for the reaction channels that really brought him to us. It fits Ren's idea of working as a collective so beautifully. Loved your reaction, Knox! As someone who deals with pain, the 'pain is a paradox that I didn't choose' line hits. You're correct; Ren has learned to live with and work past his pain, which is amazing. He's also learned to be grateful for what it has to teach him... that's a state that I admire him for and might be part of what draws others in similar situations to him as rabid fans (me for one🤣). In regards to the word 'Pathotonic' I'm not sure to what degree it is an actual word. I know in the UK they use different medical terms. My guess is that he did what the ancient Greeks and Romans did and used common terminology to create a word for exactly what he meant. Patho- Relating to disease Tonic- Pertaining to tension, especially of muscles So a disease relating to tension, specifically muscular but could also be perceived to be psychological tension as well. Would that be a double? Yes please on the idea of the album review!

Thank you Knox. I discovered Ren via Hi Ren like many others. In taking the dive down the rabbithole I discovered Knox Hill. I was never a fan of rap and being of the older generation once considered it obnoxious BS. Fast forward to today, I have a new appreciation for the genre, thanks to both Ren and yourself. Your analysis, explanation of the structure, the lyrics, and like no other - the way into Ren's head, as you did in your reaction to MG part 3. Ren is amazing, and I'm so glad he got that number 1 spot! I have severe depression and awful anxiety. When I was 17 or 18 I didn't leave my house for 2 years. It was horrible and just breaks you down in so many ways. I'm so glad I got help and didn't do what I thought about doing every day for about a year! As often happens when I listen to Ren, I am reminded of when my dad died 15 years ago. I was on Paxil at the time and it dulled my emotions to the point that I was not able to cry. Thankfully, I have gotten off that particular medication and I am now able to feel the things that humans are supposed to feel.

I don't know how I have managed to listen to reaction videos for the last three years and am just now discovering your channel! Your analysis of music is so insightful, and you are helping me learn even more about some of my favorite artists. And one of those is certainly Ren. I am a 67-year-old man, and I can tell you that I believe Ren to be a generational talent, someone who changes the musical landscape as barely a handful in my lifetime have managed to do. The fact that he is doing this as an independent artist shows me a path forward where music becomes artist-driven instead of producer-driven. And that is something that as not been seen in a long time.

Wow Knox the way you elaborated on the lyrics perfectly described how it feels being Disabled. It affects every aspect of your life, chronic pain & sickness goes hand in hand with depression, unless your in a wheelchair you get judged by others as not looking sick enough, drs push drugs but don’t believe you till your on the edge of death half the time, there’s no help for disabled parents at all in UK so we’re pushing through it with no support finding the light in life & will to preserver just to accomplish daily tasks. My husband left after I got sick I have to parent in agony but my lil girl keeps me going that’s why love is more important then money or anything else ❤

Lack of passion attacking his hippocampus could also refer to Ren being met by unempathetic doctors and therapists leading years of misdiagnosis, causing autoimmunity and chronic pain for years which in turn lead to severe PTSD. An illness known to cause hippocampal overactivation (even enlargement of that specific area in the brain, associated with anxiety).Also, his autonomic overactivation/ fight-flight response) he keeps mentioning is associated with that. For everyone interested in the history of trauma research and the current state of scientific knowledge and treatment of trauma I highly recommend the book „The body keeps the score“ by B. van de Kolk. ALSO: Doctors and psychotherapists. Goddamnit, listen to your patients, be patient, take enough time and really try to understand the person you are dealing with. Understanding is a very necessary step before you Even can begin to help. And yes, I know health care systems also put a lot of pressure on health care professionals - but why the hell did we decide to work in that field? To fulfill quotas, to make money?! I hope not. Sorry for the rant.
