More than any other Ren song I've listened to, this one hit me so personally. When you're physically sick, it's easy for your partner to stay by your side and help you recover. When you're mentally sick...it's hard to expect anyone to be able to stick around, but that's when you need your partner the most. The last scene broke me. Mine didn't stay either.

This song and video was made shortly after Ren had a major mental breakdown. At this time he was still missdiagnosed and had still no idea why he feels so terrible. Bibi was his girlfriend at this time. She was a big support for him, set up the first gofundme for him for example. To know that he was at his deepest point, thinking he ist going to get insane and literaly to die makes this video even more heart breaking, especially the line "i feel like my body ist dying while the clock keeps ticking" gets me every time.

Bibi (his girlfriend at the time) set up the initial gofundme when he was at his sickest and most desperate. There are articles you might want to read for your review, but yt won't let me link them. She helped save his life, quite literally, at a time when losing himself and then losing her was his greatest fear. In the video he replays this narrative, having her help him to his feet but knowing that - ultimately - he would have to face much of his journey alone. His rawness and vulnerability is breathtaking.

I’ve had Multiple Sclerosis for 16 years and, once again, Ren gives voice to my pain. This is what it actually feels like to have an autoimmune disease that no one can actually see and the loneliness that comes from that. It screams into the void that this is fucked up! But, you know what? There’s an eloquent saying I heard a long time ago that goes “When life knocks you down. Get back up, dust yourself down. Then look life straight in the eye and and say. Is that the best you got bitch!”. Whatever your going through, just remember, your not alone. Reach out to someone. Anyone, and reclaim your life. Ren really is changing peoples lives all over the world. Thank you for being a part of that in my journey Walterooski. 🙏🏻

Thank you for this one. There’s a reason it’s one of my absolute favourite Ren songs. He somehow found a way to express fear and agony perfectly through a song. The video, the music, the lyrics, and the voice. That distortion and the almost turned into screaming singing at the end. Just stunning.

It was so cold when this was shot. Ren laid on that cold stone for a while. This is a great representation of how sick he was at the worst time. He has a video posted early on his channel where he just talks to the camera about not being able to take it much longer. That first stem cell transplant saved him.😢

Wish I could be there for the premiere for this one, but it’ll be after midnight here. This song hits me deep. I have ME/CFS (which was his diagnosis at the time of this video.. before they figured out the Lyme disease). He was even in a documentary about ME/CFS called ‘Unrest’ and he sang a song in it as well. I saw this doco years before I discovered Ren as an artist on YT. When I made the connection, I was blown away. But being so physically unwell that you can’t even get yourself up off the floor and having to rely heavily on a partner is so difficult for both parties. And In Ren’s case, Bibi eventually left him (she was his girlfriend at the time) and he remade the ending of the video to fit the narrative. Bibi was the one who started a gofundme for him to see the specialist in Belgium who ended up diagnosing the Lyme disease finally. She helped save his life and he still has a lot of love for her.

[btw, on the remote chance that it might be helpful information instead of a well-meant but useless intrusion: Ren is now the third person I've heard of diagnosed with ME/CFS who later turned out to have MCAS and its associated inflammation causing many of their daily struggles (even if Lyme or something else was what got the MCAS going). Forgive me if you've already explored that avenue!]

This song hits hard. I have a sister who struggles with mental illness, and it has affected every relationship in her life, and the relationships between those of us who love her as we all try to navigate the chaotic world her mind creates. Staying is definitely not the easy choice.

Its so hard to believe that Ren has been putting out music for like 12 years or probably more and we are just realizing his greatness and genius! Great reaction as always! Ren has talked about this being one of his most favorite songs. Bibi was his girlfriend at the time that things were at their worst, note how skinny he is (the shot of his spine made my heart jump), it was his fear that because of everything he was going through would never end, they would never find the answers, (was before lymes diagnosis) and he would end up alone because no one could or would want to stay with him... it is his fear but not necessarily his reality. So powerful.

@@NoCanDu Yes. This. I feel all the feels and I want to hug Ren and make it better. But I also watch this and, because I'm a crutch for someone, I see her struggling to hold him, so much bigger than her. I see him physically pulling her down, like a drowning person flailing and pulling the lifeguard under. Literal crutches (for most people - this is not meant to generalize or dismiss specific cases of need), are not meant to be permanent, they are to help you stand and walk when you're injured. Once they've done their job and you're back on your own feet, the crutches go into the hall closet or basement in case you need them again. Crutches can also break under the weight, which I think is his fear in this song. But did they get you through? Whether he didn't need her to get up or she helped him up and one of them moved on, you're right, he's standing in the end.

This is probably my absolute favorite song by Ren. As someone who suffers with a chronic illness as well as anxiety and depression…. It hits so so close to home. Trying to stay strong and not have to lean on my husband or children… it’s a heartbreaking song.

I came across crutch about a week ago and it dawned on me that I used to listen to Ren all the time but getting older marriage and divorce and a son, developing my own autoimmune and psychological problems I guess I lost track of him. Ren is amazing and his music hits home every damn time.
