If you rewind a little, after pausing, you won't miss anything. :) Your first pause was right in the middle of one of the most dramatic moments/transitions in the entire song, unfortunately. Hopefully your other pauses won't be quite so unfortunate. A rewind after each pause will easily resolve the issue. Believe me, with Ren, you don't want to miss anything! :)

Having watched the entire reaction now, although I enjoyed it, it was frustrating seeing you miss so many great lyrics, transitions and other moments. As I said, I still loved your reaction but rewinding, after pausing will mean you not missing out, in future. :)

Came hopping over from the Rabbithole. Loved the reaction. Your insights were profound. One thing I will tell you about the RENagades is that they are the most loving tribe of Misfit Toys you will ever meet. You will find that Ren is a living, breathing Choose your own adventure book. My theory is that Ren has walked the halls of hell so many times that he knows where all the exits are and on one of those trips he stumbled on to the lock that unlocks the soul of every human on earth and he put it in his pocket for safe keeping until the day he sat down and wrote this song. Welcome to the RENegades..❤

The song makes clear and Ren himself has said, that this piece isn't specifically about either chronic illness or mental illness. It's about the human condition generally. Those things feature, alongside the creative process, which is featured even more heavily, because they have been the dominant forces in his life and he's telling it through the lens of his experience but this applies to all human beings. We all have hopes and doubts, positive and negative thoughts. It's also about accepting that darkness is an integral part of existence, of life itself and that once you accept this simple, if unpalatable truth, lif becomes that little bit easier. It's part of existence, part of life, part of us. It's a frustrating waste of time and energy, trying to banish it absolutely and trying to do so can leave you feeling worse. It's also pointing out that unexpected and surprisingly positive things can come from travelling through the dark. Something Ren understands well, having suffered horrifically and still having to endure constant, 24hr pain. Yet that pain has been alchemised into beauty, humour and profundity. :)

You're very perceptive! I've subscribed to follow your Ren journey. 4:17 and vice versa. Ren has Lyme disease, which was un/misdiagnosed for years. Lyme bacteria can affect your brain and nervous system, as can the stress from medical gaslighting (he was told by doctors that there was nothing wrong with him). He has been left with ongoing health problems. 6:48 Not at all, I think the comparison is apt. I don't know if Ren has read Poe or not. He obviously has a deep interest in poetry, and loves dystopian fiction. A number of his songs include elements of spoken word. He has a Dylan Thomas poem tattooed on his back. 9:29 It's not just you. It's a strange feeling, to be enjoying it so much when Ren is being so vulnerable about the private thoughts many people don't share. For me there's a few elements that make it so enjoyable: the music; the poetry; the performance; feeling seen and understood in a way I didn't think possible (I cried a lot the first time I heard this song); breaking taboos and fostering communication and community. I reckon it's cathartic for Ren. There's a line in his song Power that goes, 'A healing that you'll only find inside an intricate design of kicks and snares and fat baselines.' In his song the Hunger, he says, '[I] teach over beats'. He really has a mission to help people with the lessons he has learned, and to make meaning from his suffering. Check out his One Million Subscribers: Defining Success video. You'll be very impressed by the kind and generous person he is. However, he also has mentioned the cost that comes with sharing so vulnerably, notably in the first of his 8 autobiographical Chapters, where he told the story of his illness in more detail. To me, the overall message this song conveys is one of hope and self-compassion, but it also has humorous elements. Ren has talked a lot about his relationship with suic*de. It's mentioned in many of his songs and interviews. He has a song with that title, which is very hard hitting. He mentioned the 27 club in a song called All My Heroes by his old band, the Big Push. Thankfully his story is sort of opposite to that. He came back to life at around that age thanks to receiving a stem cell transplant. He mentions his opposite trajectory in a remix he did of Venbee's song Gutter. It would help your reactions to Ren if you rewound a few seconds every time you paused. There's a lot going on here and you might miss something if you don't. Lots of reactors choose Sick Boi next, or the Tale of Jenny and Screech (there's a 13 minute video with all 3 tales in the correct order - together they make up a bigger story).

Ren definitely has read EG Poe. It is clear in many of his pieces that he understands how Poe viewed the world, himself, and his works. If you're gonna do the Tales, a reactor (shout to GazMASH Cuts) did it in a fantastic way where they used the Spotify mini-EP of little Tale skits, it adds a ton of depth to already extremely deep songs. So the order would be: Prologue (skit song) - 0:34 seconds Jenny's Tale (music video) - 3:08 minutes Run Screech, Run (skit song) - 0:12 seconds Screech's Tale (music video) - 3:27 minutes Call for Backup (skit song) - 0:17 seconds London City (skit song) - 0:48 seconds Violet's Tale (music video) - 5:44 minutes And I think that's how we should make our suggestions from now on? It added a more interesting and deeper reaction from Gaz than if he just reacted to the 13+ minute completed video of all three Tales. Just some thoughts.

Don't worry about keeping it short. Renegades are here for the ride. Very cool reference to Poe!🎉 It's ok. We like different. Everyone can connect to another person's authentic emotions. Rwn feels it is his job to capture the words and feelings of his audience. Ren has chosen to be the voice for those made invisible by chronic mental and physical illness. Ren suffers from Lyme disease since he was 19 and was bedridden for years. Ren is very well read . He likes dystopian literature, philosophy. Last kick was Neitzche. He has ongoing turbulent relationship with his spirituality and uses many Bible, Greek mythology and other classical references. He does wite poetry, so I'm sure he has read Poe. Try Sick Boi next! I really hope you will continue with more Ren. I have subscribed.

Thanks for a great reaction 👍❤ And welcome to the world of Ren. A roller coaster ride through emotions, wisdom, musical genius and genres. Ren Eryn Gill is a multi-instrumentalist and producer. He sings, raps and writes his songs, lyrics and video scripts himself. He was born in Wales in 1990. He moved to Brighton in 2013 and did a lot of busking. He studied music performance at Bath Spa University. In 2009 he became seriously ill and had difficulty attending lectures. In 2010, he was signed to Sony Records. However, as his health continued to deteriorate, he had to terminate the contract. Today he is an independent artist. In October 2023, his album "Sick Boi" was number one in the British album charts.

A genuine raw first intro to Ren. Nice to see, as many reactors seem to react to Ren because of his popularity on KZbin, and you can tell. You’re in for quite a journey should you choose to. I began following him a couple years ago after hearing this ‘Hi Ren performance’. As a 70 yr old, engaged with music, theater and film in this lifetime, everything he puts out for us is a unique genre unto his Own. His upbringing, what he’s kept filed in his artistic nature, he seamlessly melds it,… with personal compassion❣️(and Talent!) for the ‘state of things these days’ we all deal with, and for those that suffer with daily painful conditions as he has first hand, giving his followers a web of Hope, Unity, and a conversation without sides or boarders. An internet web so to speak. joining so many that hadn’t had a voice or someOne to feel their pain with. In a nutshell…😏

I suggest you watch your own reaction, without editing in mind. Just like you'd watch someone else's. Don't we all struggle to express ourselves, each of us finding our own way to do it? Some people musically, others write poetry, some box, others run, or hike, or meditate, or scream....musicians, artists are just human, just like the customer service reps, the professors, the doctors, fast food workers, drug addicts, mothers.....human. The reason we feel "good" hearing or seeing someone else go through a difficulty is because we relate to it, it makes us feel connected and less alone.

I think that this one is fantastic even for young teens and older even if they don't have the "life experience" that we older people do. Simply because in this, Ren words it so eloquently and articulates so clearly that it help people of all ages identify and understand what they're feeling. And most importantly to know they aren't alone. In an interview Ren said that Hi Ren was a one take, the fourth take they did. They didn't have permission to be in the basement they were in, and they had 4 cameras and two mics. As they were finishing the second take, the building manager walked in and asked them to leave. They begged for another 30 minutes and the fourth was the take they used. However, the very end part when he turns from putting down the guitar and starts talking is a separate take. They were allowed to go back when the building manager helped them submit the correct paperwork. Post production was them just taking footage from the various cameras they had set up to auto record. He's done quite a few single takes, both storytelling and singing solo / duo. In mid 2024 he won a couple of international music awards for best song video for Money Game III which was two takes.

Tim Burton is a perfect example of Poe's work and influence. Ren is quite intelligent, brilliant, clever, creative, and most important, empathetic to the human race.

I love the way you compared that, i def can see it with this. If i'm not mistaken I remember remember rem saying an Edgar ellen poe poem As one of His favorite I wish remember which! He's extremely in to making his own videos and puts so much into them! Even things you don't even think about. Ren has lyme disease and is very good at showing others what is in the dark area fighting daily! I think my favorite thing about watching his reactions is watching.People realize that they have treated people badly that have been a pain or sick. And that means so much to me because i've had my entire family pretty much leave me Because. They think i'm just not trying hard enough. It's literally taking everything.I have to make it through a day.a minute is a miracle even if it's a miserable one. Ren brougt love lige and laughter in my six month I've known him. And Best of all he gave me a family back! I'll never meet them in person but i know they're out there

Hello and welcome to the RENiverse. Let me introduce you to... Ren Gill, he is a 34 year old Welsh native (Wales from the United Kingdom, specifically from the Island of Anglesey off the northwestern coast of Wales) and currently resides in Brighton, England (a southern English Channel beach town with an insanely active busking [live street performing] scene). He has been performing since he was 12 years old. He is entirely self-trained. He speaks native Welsh, English, French, and I do believe a bit of Italian, IIRC? He is exceptional at the guitar, piano, and vocalisation. He is a totally independent artist who has no record label to represent him or, more importantly, control him. He is a rapper, a multi-instrumentalist, a producer, a singer-songwriter, a composer, and truly the definition of genre-less. He can do any genre, produce any sound or beat, and he can do it all for nothing. No song is like another, no beat is the same, no way to judge anything based on what each song is. Again, it must be repeated: he is SELF-trained and has had very little formal training for his music or productions. Everything Ren does is intentional. Every aspect of every piece is thoroughly scrutinized, studied, considered, composed, and dismantled before anything comes out and that perfection comes through during recording or filming. He is a Master of live one takes and his team is one of the best in the world, despite how small, even tiny or non-existent, his budgets are. Almost all the money he makes either goes to his ongoing Lyme Disease treatments (of which his medications cost literally thousands of quids/dollars) or to the projects he has in mind. I will state that Ren is not religious. He is spiritually agnostic, though does come from a Catholic background. He considers religion important to at least acknowledge and utilise as part of his imagery because of its representation within humanity. At the age of 19, he contracted Lyme Disease from a tick bite he received while on a trip with his friends. He was misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led to severe psychosis, for several years until he was properly diagnosed by a Swiss physician. Due to not receiving the appropriate treatment for Lyme Disease within the very short time frame after contraction, the disease has ravaged his body and mind, causing permanent brain damage, severe issues with digestion, sleep, nerves, and various other health problems. It caused him horrendous, chronic, violent pain to the point of being bedridden for years. Music is the reason he has survived. He had originally signed to Sony Records prior to contracting the disease, then when his condition became severe, he lapsed in his ability to complete his contract and both Sony and Ren agreed to end his contract. He has been independent ever since. I'd like to provide some cultural context for this artist from another extremely talented artist: This is what the Irish folk rock artist Sinead O’Connor posted on social media after watching Hi Ren: “Holy motherfuckin SHIT! Someone just showed me this at the weekend. This Archangel from like, twelfth heaven or somewhere, has only gone and made the entire history of songwriting and performing look like a three year old's birthday party at Burger King. Every song and or artist in history even Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, NWA, Ice Cube, and even Bob Dylan, is officially relegated to class B. As are every actor in history or legend: living or dead, male or female. We all are now defunct." Posted on May 17th, 2023, 2 months before self-deletion in July 2023. Another massive compliment to Ren was when Andrew Lloyd Webber, one of the most creative minds of the last 200 years, finally saw Money Game Part 3 and stated on Instagram: "@RenMakesMusic is one of the most unique songwriters and storytellers I've seen in recent times. Hope to see this album at number one -ALW" Several other massive creatives have expressed their appreciation, experiences, and joy for Ren's music: Tom Hardy (major hollywood actor and one of Ren's favorite actors), Robbie Williams (fellow musician and Brit), Simon Jones (fellow musician and bassist for the Verve), Russell Crowe (major hollywood actor and an impassioned activist like Ren), Amanda Palmer (major hollywood actress). I recommend watching Sick Boi, Troubles, and the 'Chapters' from his RenMakesStuff (BTS channel for Ren) for a much deeper comprehension of his journey. Hi Ren was recorded live in the basement of an apartment building in Brighton, England. It was literally a crew of five people, cost 50 quid (~$62) to make, and the audio is entirely one take. The video is spliced across four one takes. It is recorded live with a lavalier lapel microphone, a portable guitar amp and recording device, three cameras, and Ren's laptop. He rehearsed this piece literally thousands of times before he even recorded the music video to provide certainty that he would get the guitar notes perfectly and his delivery as perfect as possible. This piece is a very personal one for Ren and was the first time in his musicianship to properly acknowledge his ailment, his journey, and his issues musically. He has hinted at it in all of his previous works prior to it, but this was the first time it was out in the open, purposefully. The 'Pig' from the beginning is an essential symbol in the RENiverse and appears in many, if not most, of his other music videos and media. It represents the corrupted and abused systems of the world that take and take and take and never give back to the people they are supposed to support: medicine, music, finances, trade, commerce, government, etc… There are actually four characters in this piece: the yodeller at the beginning and end (representing a call to aspirations), self (the calm and soft one on the 'right'), doubt (the 'evil' one on the 'left'), and hope (the one in the 'centre' near the end of the piece). The written poetry at the end of the piece is a very simplified summary of his real journey and represents his most primary belief system. Hi Ren is a continuation of Sick Boi, which is recorded live (though not a one take) in the same basement a few weeks prior to Hi Ren. It was also produced for practically no money and it represents his feelings on commoditization, greed, the healthcare industry, and the music industry in a generalised yet very specific manner. Hi Ren has received multiple nominations or wins for awards, has over 40 million views, and he has several million followers worldwide. He has other videos and songs with multiple awards, especially Money Game Part 3 of the Money Game trilogy, which has won several dozen awards. Ren had the #1 Album (Sick Boi) in the UK in 2024 and reached the Billboard Top 200, beating out Drake and Rick Astley, two of the biggest names in music, for nearly 3 weeks straight with virtually no airplay or any of the traditional methods of commercialised music. Just through sheer community and streaming, Ren beat out two of his inspirations in his home country. That's incredibly impressive. A fellow RENegade really summed up the experience of Ren in a, imo, perfect way. From KMac70-Rex on KZbin: "You are among the special ones whose life has been profoundly changed-there's no going back. While many reactors recognize Ren as a remarkable artist, for some, he’s just one of many they react to before moving on. But for others, Ren's music resonates on a much deeper, profoundly intimate level. His songs feel like conversations with a close friend-raw, honest, and cathartic. It’s this rare ability to touch the core of human experience that makes his artistry so impactful. Ren's willingness to bare his soul fosters an authentic connection, allowing us to relate to his music on a deeply personal level. Through his lyrics, he captures the nuances of life in ways that make us feel seen, understood, and, most importantly, not alone." There is life before Ren and then there is life after Ren. Welcome to your life after Ren. Have fun! Welcome to the RENegades and the RENiverse. Much peace and love to you. ^^

I felt bittersweet reactions to early Nine Inch Nails music given Trent Reznor's battle with depression and of course, Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. However, if fans who also deal with any kind of challenge mentally, emotionally, physically, the music speaks to their soul and heart.

I don't feel guilty that Ren uses his own life experiences to create art. He acknowledges that his health struggles, mental & physical, certainly inspired him & led to his successful career in music. So why should I feel guilty? There are so many other things in life to feel guilty about. Not this.
