Ren's sense of humour is something that has gone highly underappreciated. It is a big part of why his story telling and lyricism is so relatable and human. He provides us with comic relief we all need in moments of the darkest reflection on the human condition.

The thing I love about the kombucha line that I haven't seen anyone mention yet is how it ties back to him butchering the culture. You need a culture (bacteria and yeast) to brew it. So he's not brewing it up because he's got no culture. And props to you being the only one who really understood the Of Mice and Men reference. I love how intelligent and educated both you and Ren are.

OMG thank you!! The kombucha line was the only line I didn't understand because of. his accent. I had no idea what he was saying there til Knox said it and now you explained the deeper meaning to it. I appreciate that. Oh btw I'm in America and I did know who Lennie from Of Mice and Men was. I had a teacher who loved John Steinbeck. That and I remember Chris Farley portraying Lennie in an SNL skit at some point.

A few things to add: the bagpipes are traditionally played at the start and end of royal proclamations. The flowers are important too, the language of flowers gives white chrysanthemum - death, grief Ferns - sorrow Olive - peace, reconciliation, victory Even in the first shot Ren is showing where the track is going ❤

And the bagpipes are playing "Amazing Grace." I don't know if it is an actual point, but Ren absolutely showed grace and class in his ending message. Ren is a good man. Maybe too good for this broken world. I hope he's not too late. We need to listen and actually hear him. I wish more would. 😊💜

@CLad-nc1ox oooh thank you for that info! Even more and deeper into Ren's mind we go! I don't think most of us (I know i sure don't) have the capacity to fully understand every level. He's like top of the tier. I'm smart enough, but OMG I feel like a stumbling toddler trying to learn trigonometry. I can dive in and feel and learn and even relate to so many levels (pain, depression, misdiagnosis, suicide survivor and lost friends, medication game, dv survivor is a few of my connections...) but I doubt I'll ever be able to grasp them all. But I can feel and absolutely feel less alone and less broken. He's reaching all ages and all demographics.

Ren is so gifted. Even if Dotta continues to try and build his numbers with diss rap, there is zero way he will get support if he goes after Ren again, and it would be career suicide if he did. Especially where Ren just offered him a hand up. If Dotta wants to rise, he now has a fork in the road and can choose which path to take, something rarely offered in the game of rap; Dotta can choose diss (or hate) rap, or encouragement, hope, rap. This is Ren's world and people are hungry for it.
@DanKaschel
@DanKaschel 7 ай бұрын
I think this misses the point a little bit. Neither Ren nor Knox were trying to discredit diss rap as an art form. If they did, then they would be hypocrites. Dotta’s choice is (was) to capitalize on this opportunity (and behave respectfully under this new scrutiny) or just be bitter about being bested.

And that line is from Love Music Part 1, one of the oldest tracks in his catalog -- Ren wrote that when he was TWENTY, if not before! This was his character long before he ever got his recent success, before he got signed to Sony, before he got sick and lost his dreams and was forced to a wisdom and perspective beyond his years. The rising tide that is currently lifting all channels it touches has been part of Ren's nature all along. ❤

He played the game, excelled at it, and then pulled it all back into his own way, organically. It's a masterclass imo. The end might not be completely in the "spirit of Battle rap" but imo actually questioning that and flipping it into his spirit/beliefs just is *chef's kiss*.

Nice catch of the "flowers". Another double meaning: the video started w/ funeral march of Amazing Grace... & ended with Amazing Grace being exhibited by Ren. When we respond with Grace... like you & Ren did with this... it generates a container that invites transformation, so all concerned... all who witness it... can enter into that state of mind. It's humbling to witness ... and sparks joy in the hearts of your audience. Thank you!

This might be my favorite quote of the year. Seriously... "If I pander to my ego then I'm just another slave... a casualty of vanity... hate just breeds hate..." This man is a genius who has made the conscious choice to bring as much good into the World as he can. He turns a diss battle into a call for brotherhood and unity while encouraging the other rapper to consider doing GOOD rather than continuing the nastiness. Wow. Just f-ing WOW. Okay, now for my "Knox Hill comment." What a KILLER reaction. More of an analysis and explanation video. I subscribed to you immediately when I saw your reaction to Hi Ren. Your knowledge and understanding of rap opened my eyes to the complexities and creativity behind (good) rap. The way you explained what Ren was doing in this video was superb. I'd heard it only two times prior, and I was missing something. Make that thingS. Plural. I had a general sense of the meaning, but I had no clue about MOST of the 'sneakier' references to other artists and other songs. Fantastic reaction!! You certainly affirmed my suspicion that you are bright AND intuitive! Thanks! Now I can comment on OTHER reactors videos of this and sound like I'm the smartest one in the room. "The pinnacle of my success is stealing other people's material." 😉

All of Ren's spoken word pieces are great exercises for catharsis. Really inhabit Ren's cadence, tone, and expressions. It's a great way to learn to flip the story and find your own power. In addition to the chrysanthemums, Ren has fern--for sincerity and sorrow--and olive--for both peace and victory. Ren telegraphed things right there, then he used words. He's a gem. Always. So are you Knox.

Thank you for taking the time to address the difference in the type of content that Ren and you create vs the type of content Dotta creates. You make a very good point about any fans that do choose to follow Dotta not being interested in the substance of the content he has created up to this point. I have looked at some of his regular tracks to see what's there. That is exactly the type of content that I have avoided for years. Hip hop and rap has greatly evolved over the years. Continuing to fill your mind with destructive content especially these days when so many are struggling just isn't helpful. In my opinion that's the type of content that keeps you trapped where you are, not changing, growing or trying to do anything to improve your quality of life. Even if an artist does have some degree of skills that can be improved over time. If the substance of the content is hateful, destructive, divicive and or toxic it simply will not gain the traction that it otherwise could even if a million or two eyes are looking at it. It will drop off.

Bro I remember back 3 yrs ago we carried a convo on here and I said you should be in the millions of subs. And by God I was right on the money with it. Bro you are truly one of a billion on this reacting and making awesome music. You haven't let anything bring you down and man that's wicked awesome as well. Keep the music culture alive and positive my guy. Congrats on your subs. #I'mBehind

Thank you both. I have had so much fun watching reactors the past few days my jaw’s aching from the grin. Knowing sweet FA about rap/battle rap and the history it’s been a real education too. If only school was this much fun. Love to you both.

I heard Dotta interviewed on Red Top and he said he loved REN’s approach and his nod to the battle culture with the acapella theatrics. If I hadn’t followed the whole saga, I thought he came across chill. Then he mentioned you; slightly different dialogue. I don’t have to say anything; next thing you know I’ll be challenged to a battle. Although I’ve been in plenty of battles, but they weren’t lyrical lol Good stuff lately brother. Keep it up 🫡🤘

By BF and his dad are HARD core into old school rap and hip hop. When this battle started they didn't know who y'all were except for me randomly talking about you or Ren but I got so excited and louder with each step they decided to listen to show me how bad you were.... They were NOT impressed with Dotta but you picked up 2 new subs from them and I won an argument about Rap! 😂 keep moving this game proper!

Thank you both for the analysis which filled in the field which would have been full of craters of misshearing to my dyslexic ears without it, but mostly, thank you for having Ren's back. That's why I subscribed here. I truly believe that Ren is inspired and is directed by a Light which few others can sense in any way, and he not only can give it voice, but also act in accordance with it as he shows in this. He proves that he can scrap with words, but then offers to help his opponents back to their feet and even asks his fans to return compassion. The kid is special, precious for the service and grace that he shows to all of our human tribe, and he's proving also that he can "walk the walk" relative his message by returning brotherly love to his attacker. I really hope that he changes this world, because I'd much rather live in his vision of it's potential

I was waiting for this. Your breakdowns are awesome as always. What I was really waiting for though: is to see how you react to the second part. Did you notice that as soon as Ren flips it around, you don't stop at every line like you did at the first part? The flow just takes you on the journey it took us all on. Love how the grizzled rap-dissector has to stop and just listen in awe. So it's not only me! Every single time I hear this, I have tears I'm my eyes. Don't really know why. Maybe seeing how love can win against hate actually gives me hope? Maybe because I almost stopped believing it... Hats off for your final message. You can count me in as a supporter of the cause for your next song.

I am a huge fan of both you and Ren, both musically and because of where both your hearts are at. Unfortunately, i was far too old when i learned that there is a way to artfully and skillfully stand up for yourself when being dissed and yet still spin it into a positive light. Thank you for your fucking amazing music, sharing your gift of breaking down songs and giving a new appreciation for the HipHop/Rap world, that i didnt know i had. One note to mention while pointing out specifics in Ren's video, at the end the bagpipes play Amazing Grace...interesting choice in the hymn in the intro/outro. GRACE. its funny as hell, in the intro as the song, of course is played most often at funerals, but, again, that juxtaposition that Ren so eloquently spits is always amazing. Thanks again for building up community support and stay gold my friend.

Tom's song "Bit My Tongue" is literally about not responding to the haters and rappers putting out diss tracks because it just makes them bigger, and that's exactly what they want!
