So layered. A masterstroke. In addition to Jimmy being a metaphor for all of us, I see "Daddy" as a metaphor for cultural norms that are always pumping us with toxic messages that we can never have enough and we are never good enough. Fantastic reaction! Get better soon! Lots of lemon, ginger and honey tea 🥰

I really liked your analysis (as always), but one thing I'd put slightly differently: I don't think at 44 he had everything and was happy, and then at 45 realized that he wasn't actually happy. I think he was never happy, but always chasing what he *thought* would make him happy until he gave up. All his life *until* his father died, he chased approval that he was never going to receive. When his father died he was lost because now he couldn't even pretend there might come a day when he would receive that approval that he so badly needed. At 45 he realized how little meaning his life had (to him), and that once he had "everything", he could no longer pretend that "just one more thing" that he didn't have would finally make him happy. So now he's faced with the fact that all of the terrible things he did trying to be happy/satisfied with his life was all for naught. It's a powerful and tragic story. He's awful, but he was emotionally abused and twisted by his father and while that doesn't forgive him, it explains a lot. Anyhow, otherwise I think you were spot on, on point.

Watching this while feeling sick AF too - don't feel bad about the coughing, happens to us all D: Get well sooon! And take all the break time you need Dx And man, you really are incredible, you pick up on details that most other reactors don't catch - especially not as quickly as you do. Like the fact that this story, from the very beginning, wasn't just about "Jimmy" but about everyone. @6:28 It's relatively obvious, especially with any sort of hindsight, and I think most people get it before it's stated clearly at the end, but /very few/ get it almost instantly like that. And also @20:06 that's another detail that at least I didn't catch until Ren said it, but you caught it immediately ^^ Ren's music really is just so powerful and moving. Catchy in a way, but moving more than anything. I love something that can connect me with those kinds of feelings while also making me think critically. He's so very talented and diverse, but this specific type of song is absolutely the peak of my experience with Ren.

What to me is telling, is most children go through a stage of mine, mine, gimme. It's the people that bring them up that teach them how to share and to wait, and how to think of others. Without that, everyone is Jimmy.

Relieved to see you back! But take care of yourself fRENd... at 17:44 you're starting to sound like Arnie a bit. 4:30 "Loosen the noose on the rope" ...You're the first reactor I've seen make that connection! Thanks for pointing it out. Just out of curiosity, what did you utter at 21:49? My french-canadian ears must have been playing tricks on me... And if you feel the need to keep us updated on your status without requiring to make a video, you could always make a Community post on your channel.

I have to mention how much I resonate with this metaphorical example of what the world has become in almost every country/culture and family. I don't think I can remember a time when I was told I was loved, for me. Like Jimmy I was was given backhand compliments that said to me, nope still not good enough for the time and respect you crave. But I have to go back to the story and point out... That 1 year old boy spoke his first words? "Mine mine GIMME?" He was never taught better, but he was also complicit in his father's jealousy and subsequent disrespect for his son, cause Jimmy was seeking approval from him, in any way possible. Mine? Love GIMME? Attention!

Almost. It's explaned, during the behind the scenes I believe, that there is one cut. When the camera goes behind the wheelchair. That was done due to a limited timeframe and not wanting to have to re-do the rain part. Still brilliant and it makes sense why they made that decision.

I’m glad you’re doing better, Tre’. Please take care of yourself. This was a great reaction. I love your perspective and how you really understand what Ren is saying to all of us. This one sealed the deal for me with Ren’s music. The story & lyrics, his acting and his ability to bring his vision to life. The TRUTH in it. There’s a BTS video for this that you should check out just for your own enjoyment. Ren and his team are a force! Finally, this one really opened my eyes to Ren’s composition skills. The orchestra, piano, rhythm. It’s a long song, but you can’t take your eyes off it. Just completely enthralling. Again, glad you’re on the mend. Please take care of yourself. Tre’ get well 1st. “You can’t give from an empty cup”. I learn this lesson everyday. But, what a reminder of why i always love your reactions. I believe what you have is wisdom! The way you could almost pull out where ren was going to take us next!!! Your beautiful mind and heart too! You sometimes speak on things just as eloquently as Ren. Greed. And true it’s for anything. As a parent I’ve learned that even while we try, we are still fighting society and our cultures messages that bombard us from every outside place! I wish I knew how you learned these lessons and were able to step back and live in a new way!! You are so inspiring. Please rest. We’re all dealing now with the aftermath of the storms.
