been recent to ren but i feel his songs are an attempt to open our eyes, him drawing them in p-1 is to show we have vision but are blind to society overall. we know bad is happening but choose to ignore it when we benefit. when we don't its easier to burn ourselves than the reason. that's just my view on it

Here is my take, there is no figure that is enough. Truth is, you can piss away any amount of money. When you focus on scarcity, there is no number that is ever enough. Want to go to Mars?

I believe his message is: “We are not powerless.” We have the option to change our fate just as REN did when he took off the noose and the cover off of his head. Meaning we can all do that. If you notice how easy it was for him to take it off, and when he did, he saw himself for the first time in the mirror. We can do the same, but we walk around with blinders of our own choosing. The system we think is holding us back is in fact a fragile one, a weak one just like the noose on a rope that isn’t fastened to any scaffolding, not realizing that if we just open her eyes, we will immediately figure out there’s no danger at the other end of the rope. It was all a lie. But we put on and keep the cover over our heads because it’s easier to aqueous to a system that has perfected and provides on a daily basis self perpetuating hypnosis. We do it because it’s easier, because the real struggle happens every time you wake up in the morning. The famous and late George Carlin said “the dream only works if you’re asleep“. The noose around your neck is loose and you are the one holding the other end.

Give these #TDIP men their flowers. As for Ren, one take is the 40th take in... they are disciplined and determined, rehearsed and discussion.. It takes bravery to failure to get it right. I am all in w this channel. ****edit - props to Ren's crew. You do not do this alone. He has amazing people about him. He is a master but he has a crew about him that allows for the best of the best of the best, I may be wrong but I believe $ game 3 came after he had success... the man took #1 in UK as an independent. and what the hell did he do? he put the money back into equipment and hiring people. ABOUT THE BAG…In the game Monopoly, the goal is to make as much money as you can. The Monopoly logo is a man running carrying a money bag as if he’s stealing it. We all, in one way or another, pursue money and wealth so we all have the money bag over our heads strangling us. With the bag over our head, all we see is money and nothing else. Influencers, corporations, and politicians want us to believe that money is all that matters. Ren drawing the eyes on the bagged guy in Money Game part 1 is telling us to open our eyes and see how we’re being manipulated. The bagged guy in Money Game 3 that grabs and replaces Ren at the piano is telling us that we’re all just cogs in the machine and can easily be replaced. Also…fun fact about Sea Shells in Money Game 2 is that the Shell Oil Corporation started out as a Shell shop in London selling rare shells. So it’s actually a true-to-life story where selling sea shells turns into selling oil and reaping the earth of its natural resources. I’m from AMERICA…and yes…we’re a shit-show right now. I believe Ren was absolutely talking about Trump…”stepping out on a stage to a round of applause…a liar, a cheat, a devil, a whore…etc”. If he gets re-elected, we’re totally fucked.

Setting himself on fire in MG1, was him realising and acknowledging that he is part of the problem too. He kept on wanting to hurt the person with the bag over the head and kind of scorn them... telling them to open their eyes by drawing eyes on the bag. But at the end instead of setting the person in front of him on fire, he does it to himself.... meaning we are all part of the problem

So I've come back to watch your reaction to this a second time because got me thinking after the first watch of your reaction to this. I've seen hundreds of reactions to this song/video since Oct 2023 when it was released and I've never felt the need to go back and re-watch a reaction to it because of the theory I have put together due to the things you guys asked and said in your reaction. So this is a first for me. Bare with me, I hope I can express me thoughts clearly enough.
@MegsD792 ай бұрын
The first thing I want to do is say this particular song/video, not the full MG trilogy necessarily, could be linked to The Tale Of Jenny and Screech and Violet's Tale (intentionally or maybe it's just something that is absolute coincidence.)
@MegsD792 ай бұрын
In The Tales Trilogy Violet is born into a family with an abusive father and a mother that drinks and to escape that family she leaves home at 16 using a welfare scheme to afford her own place and she works a job stocking shelves at Tesco (I'm American but I'm assuming that's a grocery store.) I'm assuming that someone that is 16 and living on their own would prob have to drop out of school and work full time even with help from welfare in order to make ends meet. Which means Violet prob makes minimum wage and wouldn't have the education to ever get a job that pays a ton of money. Violet is then beaten by Stevie, her bf, ends up dying from the injuries but the doctors were able to save her twins, Jenny and Screech (Screech's real name being James) and since their mother is deceased, their father, Stevie (or their father could be Violet's father from the abuse, Ren never tells us who is the father of the twins )is either on the run because he murdered their mother or he ended up in jail and Violet's parents are no longer in her life so they wouldn't know she had babies or that she passed away.
@MegsD792 ай бұрын
So Jenny and James go up for adoption or to separate foster homes and grow up not knowing each other but they both also seemed to grow up in poverty (Jenny is 14 and walking the streets at night in high heels and just wants to escape her life so we kind of assume she's prob either a sex worker, stripper or something to that effect to make money and James is out smoking ganja with his friends at 14 and robbing people late at night on he streets so he is desperate for money as well and neither of them seem to have any adults that care about where they are or what they are doing in the middle of the night. So the entire Trilogy seems to be based on people that are living in poverty and the things that happen all the time to people that live in poverty and have to do whatever they can to survive.
@MegsD792 ай бұрын
Now, MG 3 is all about a boy named "Jimmy" (which is a nickname for someone named James) who was born to a mother and father that appear to be well off financially because they pay for private schools and the father keeps pushing Jimmy to make more money and obtain more power. Jimmy never wins his dad's approval, he pushes so hard thru his entire life to make more and more money and become more and more powerful and respected and ends up turning to illegal activities but at the level of a King Pin who is the boss and makes tons of money. He has 1 moment of passion with a prostitute and that's the closest thing to affection or love or connection with another human outside of his parents. He ends up injured and alone (lonely) with tons of money but no one to love or to show him love which is all he wanted from his dad his entire life. His drinks to numb the physical and mental pain and then unalives himself because he realized that that he wasted his money chasing the wrong things in life.
@MegsD792 ай бұрын
My theory is that these are parallel stories of James/Jimmy that both end in tragedy (the last words to each of their stories were "It's such a damn shame") regardless of he was born into poverty or wealth. Both Jimmy and James did not have anyone there for them that loved them when they died. If in either scenario there had been a loving parent or partner then things would prob have turned out differently.

This is the key recipe- we want to relive emotional experiences and discovery through reactors. Keep up the good work. So many great songs for you to experience both inside Ren's body of work and elsewhere. Put on your list at some point: 1.Yebba - "My Mind" live from Sofar 2. Lorna Shore - pain remains trilogy...BUT - do them 1 at a time not in one sitting. And most importantly have the lyrics handy but not necessarily in the YT video. 3. Iam Tongi- "monsters" American idol audition. 4. Falling in Reverse- the drug in me is you. 5. " " - The Drug in me is Reimagined Keep up the good work!

There is a forth story to the Money Game. An epilogue if you will. "Eden" was shown at the end of a competition he ran in the lead up to releasing MG3. Greed is the sin that Ren shines a light on more than any, and mankind's fall from grace can be seen as greed or a necessary evil, depending on what you do with that freedom. As always Ren's songs are there to start conversation and debate.
@VideosbyLisaLisa2 ай бұрын
A nice rewatch. The cloth tied by noose-like rope reminds me of old school money bags that we're always clothed in. Nearly impossible to see when it's intrinsic to your daily life. We forget that money & capitalism are human constructs and only one of various options one could use for trade or functioning society. I think the narrator (Ren) draws eyes to make the hostage see, but his action makes him see the faceless Other as a real person. He realizes he has also been pointing his fingers at others and blaming. He realizes he's been a part of the Money Game all along and decides to take himself out if the game (& more). He does this in a way that joins the crazy human timeline of people self-immolating as a former of protest. (He even poses himself like the infamous Buddhist monk, whose photograph became famous again in the 90s when used on their debut album by Rage Against the Machine. You'll see nods to RAtM & Zack de la Rocha in Ren's catalog.) Great job, gentlemen! 💛✌️

Yep, when Ren was part of the Trick the Fox band, pre-Lyme disease, he had started the process of creating the Freckled Angels album with Sony Records and then he got Lyme disease. The label was unwilling to support him because of how awful his condition had become, despite the fact that he still didn't have a proper Lyme disease diagnosis. He lost the contract and connections there and continued on as an independent artist. He's been an independent artist nearly 15 years now. I highly recommend checking out the Trick the Fox content eventually. You can hear a VERY clear difference between pre-Lyme disease Ren and post-Lyme disease Ren. Ren is much more positive and 'pop-y' in Trick the Fox compared to all of his later works. When he first started getting his symptoms, he created a song called Crutch with his then-girlfriend Bibi. It's an incredibly deep and personal track that is a visceral experience. The video is where he and Bibi are all but nude, holding onto each other through the pains of his worsening condition. It is sad, hard, poetic, and exceptionally good, even in his early 20s. I cannot recommend it enough to see where he came from to where he is now.

Did you see Ren's performance of money game 2 at the Sky Arts Awards recently? Being from the UK you might appreciate the significance.

Late AF to it, but I think the initial video was supposed to reference images of torture at abu ghraib and the hoods go on as a visual rhyme throughout. Possibly to continue the theme of humanizing the victim in the first video - which is why the torturer in that one kills himself after he sees the humanity (drawn eyes) in his victim.

I think the ending is him saying that, in the end, we are all just killing ourselves for consumption and money.

Hi Guys, rom Australia. I love all your Ren reactions. My take on why he lights himself is in the chorus, "...we're all part of this money game" In other words if we are going to hold anyone accountable we also have to hold ourselves accountable. No good saying it's out of our hands. We are not powerless. We can't be lazy and blame. If we want things to change then we must be the change, we must change it. ❤❤

I think the scene where he’s setting himself on fire is a situation where we want to burn the system down but we burn ourselves down instead by choosing to accept that this is just the way things are. “We’re all part of this old money game”

dont know your names yet but fella on the left, you got it ..the message..money is ofcourse necessary, but the constant plight for more and more money, means nothing compared to health and happiness and just appreciating the real things x

I'm thinking that we walk around with eyes wide shut and painting the eyes wide open is what Ren is trying to do... edit: pt:2 literally tells the story of Shell petroleum n pt:3 i don't know, but it's a wicked story!!

Honestly I've gave up being surprised at Ren reaction. I seen one bad reaction to troubles saying he's repetitive . Never ever have I seen a community go at someone like that lol. He seriously is a monster of an artist. Who else can do all he does?. Name one other artist who can write perform multi instrumentalist poet actor beast of a lyricist. Name one other. You can't. He's just unreal.

Monks have set themselves on fire as a means of protesting inhumane situations. I believe it's a nod to that.

I tend to think that in #1 he drew eyes so that the faceless power could now see him and his protest is the fire in homage to the Buddhist monk who did so back in the 70's I think it was. The cover of the Rage Against the Machine album.
