Ren said yesterday he wrote this in 2015. So glad he used it on this album, but it makes me wonder about all the songs he’s scrapped!! I added this song to my Beasties playlist & I find I never even notice it’s Ren. 😺 I do wish that the Beasties could have seen this tribute. 💜

I suspect he doesn't fully *scrap* many songs if there was a kernel of something in there that pulled him into working on them for any amount of time. I bet he has hard drives full of bits of beats and raps and guitar parts that he was really excited about, that he just couldn't turn into something he was happy with *at the time.* I think he'll continually be delving into his musical "scrapbook" to re-visit things he once set aside if he couldn't work them any further at the time. In 2023, especially for an artist who is as immersed in the *production* (ie, recording) of his music as Ren is, I bet he has an awful lot of stuff he's fooled around with over the years, saved (hopefully with backup, too...)

The first time I heard this, my head nearly exploded. I was taken back in time to the age of about fourteen when my friend had a bootleg tape of the beastie boys album that had you gotta fight for your right to party on it. We wore the tape out we played it so much 😊❤

Until the day Ren released the Sick Boi album track listing last month-ish, I had NO IDEA that some of the amazing tracks we ("we" = those of us who found Ren when "Hi Ren" took off) all discovered through "Hi Ren" that I thought were part of his *back catalogue* - Genesis, The Hunger, What You Want - were gonna be on the album. Those videos had been released so long before the album was being released, it didn't occur to me that I was gonna get em on Sick Boi! It was a huge joy to discover that they were a part of the project of this album.
