it absolutely isn't the menai bridge. That is a vast stone and wrought iron monument over 150 years old. It's also exposed as hell and *never* not howling a gale. I can understand the sentiment in thinking it might be there, but this is the rooftop or terrace of a modern building.

Incredible talent draws Incredible talent. From finding Sam Tompkins out one day when they were like 15 and busking together, to meeting Daisy while they were both with Sony, to The Big Push. Ren has blessed the world with not just himself but these other artists. Ren and Daisy have both said in multiple interviews that they are musical siblings. She left Sony mostly due to Rens' guidance on her producing her own songs. The artistic chemistry they share is phenomenal.

Hi Crow - I see you got your sound sorted out, yay! I haven't watched your reaction yet, but I heard the bit about the bridge, and I want to knock that myth on the head straight away. It's a common misconception, and I believed it too for a couple of months, But people in the know have confirmed categorically that this is *not* filmed on the bridge where Joe lost his struggle with depression. [Edit - Doug O'Neill being one of those people in the know!] It looks like it's filmed on a large balcony or a roof terrace. If you look carefully, near the start of the video, you can see a door and a window on the left, and the area is also surrounded by the type of glass 'wall' thingy you'd see on a balcony/terrace. But still, 14 people will probably pop in to the comments to say it was recorded on *that* bridge. T'is like playing whack-a-mole. 🕳🐹🔨

If people would take the trouble to do a little research, they'd find out for themselves that this isn't the Menai Bridge. I looked up the bridge in Maps and the images in the video are in no way comparable to the Menai Bridge. I've also seen some comments that Joe's disappearance is staged and the body should have been found a long time ago but the bridge spans a strait with a strong current so it's very likely that Joe's body was dragged along by that strong current. Unfortunatly, those internet myths are very hard to die down and people just believe what they want to believe.

I’ve watched this so many times but I think I pieced together a connection in REN’s writing. He says “Hallelujah, where is my God, where are you?” And I reflected on the somewhat sarcastic use of hallelujah in that context, evocative of the song by the same name as written by Leonard Cohen. Who Ren name checks in his song The Hunger, referencing that song. !! Watching Ren is like an Easter egg hunt that goes on forever.

It's a tragedy more people don't know who these two are! Especially Ren! I discovered Ren 8 months ago by accident before Hi Ren was released. I can't go a day without numerous Ren songs played. A lesser known gem is Ren and Sam thompkins improvising Stevie wonder Street performance. Ren raps like a bullet and along with Sam do an INCREDIBLE performance. You should definitely react to it 🙂

This is my favorite Ren performance and what I personally feel is his most beautiful song. Chinchilla nails it, and the connection between the two is unbelievable. I'm not sure where the story that this was shot on the bridge Joe Hughes jumped off comes from. I've seen it repeated by well-meaning fans over the past few months but this is clearly not on any bridge. A brick wall on the right and windows or glass doors on the left can be seen several times in the video. Joe jumped off the Menai Brdge that connects mainland Wales to the Isle of Anglesey. It's quite an imposing Victorian Stone and Cast Iron structure. There are some wonderful pictures of it online. I've crossed the bridge twice, I thihk it's the first modern engineered suspension bridge in the world. At least one of the earliest. I also feel fortunate to have found so many caring, concerned, compassionate people thru Ren. I've been involved in indie music for decades and had almost given up hope that something so new and so special as Ren and this community would ever emerge again. Thanks for being you!

I think your reaction is just like mine - pure eargasm moment when they do the humming-into-I can't breathe bit. I love seeing the ecstasy in people's faces when they hear that for the first time. I mean, I've seen it a thousand times at this stage, and I still get a shiver of pure joy. I think of this as a beautifully devastating song, the harmonies and the performance are off the charts, and the message is heart breaking. I saw a comment elsewhere to the effect that this is a great song, and Ren is marvellous in it, but Chinchilla elevates it to the level of a masterpiece. I see no error in that statement. 😁 Everything is perfect here, the harmonies, the sheer precision of the singing, the passion in the performance, the way they lock eyes and seem to share a single soul. This is one of my favourite performances ever. But dammit, Ren and Chinchilla - I'm running out of slots in my top ten of all time, leave some room for other artists, will ye? In terms of the meaning, the best take I've read is along these lines: Obviously the last bit is Ren talking very directly about Joe. But is the rest of the song about Ren or about Joe? On the one hand it could be representing the pain and despair and struggle that tormented Joe and drove him to that bridge that night. Crying out for help "Nothing is pulling me through" On the other hand, it could be Ren describing the despair and hurt and loss-of-innocence he felt in the aftermath of that night. It shook him so much that he didn't even know who he was any more. How could he remain 'him' after the hammer blow of Joe's death? It changed him forever. Or.. Is it actually both of these at the same time? The feeling of desperation; the pain and loss-of-self and the crying-out-for-help which they both felt separately at different times... is that not one and the same exact set of feelings? I like to think Ren is clever enough that it's the last of these, even if he didn't consciously write it that way - the words still fit both scenarios. I've listened to this song from Joe's point of view, and from Ren's point of view and it's striking how well it works from either perspective. Anyway, thanks for the great reaction. I'll toddle off and check what you've already uploaded then pop back with some suggestions of what else to check out.

Chinchilla released an EP 3 years ago and there are lots or utterly amazing tracks on it. It's called "Awakening". Try "Know No" or "One Time" or my fav "Shadows[Tails]". You won't regret one second as they are top notch.
