As we heard in Hi Ren , learning to soften means that you are less likely to break. Artistically, to be able to bend means that you know when , where , and how to allow yourself adjust in ways that creates space for others. Ren and Chinchilla have a special connection to each other, that includes unconditional trust with music but also with the vulnerability that comes with it. I watched Ren do this from his room, sitting alone on his bed and he wasn’t able to get through to the last part. I feel like their eye contact is saying “ I’ve got you.” Ren and Chinchilla always perform a ‘musical pas de deux’- dancing around and within the melody , with implicit trust. And REN returned and finished the ending. And wrote that he considered not posting it. But then wrote out how overwhelming higher the statistics were for males vs females to commit S because they weren’t taught to, afraid to, or simply shamed to admit they were struggling and reach out for help. He followed with the S hotline. He genuinely doesn’t want anyone to feel the depths of despair that Joe felt that night. This from a man who suffered unrelenting pain for a decade and is still going through it. ❤

I rember Sam Tompkins saying that Ren will adapt to the the person or people he is workinf with. He has a charming lack of ego when working with others. In Back on 74 it is the same with the back up singers. Enjoyed your reaction. Thanks. Oh, these 2 have apparently taped another couple collaborations that have not been release yet.

Yeah, they have, and they are teasing us horribly by making us wait, L😅L

100%. And The Big Push, I think that’s what makes them so good. Groups always say “we don’t have a frontman” but it’s usually bullshit. But if you watch them perform live, Ren is just as happy in front of the mic as he is playing backup while one of the other guys takes lead. And they’re all like that.
@salishseamermaidАй бұрын
Ren is a prime example of someone who knows "the rules" of music well enough that he knows how to break them to make it even better.

Ren is so good at using discordant notes and dissonance to evoke unease. You know before they say a word that this will be haunting because of those little jagged edges, like pins left in a silk scarf.
@gwynzyfulАй бұрын
It’s the emotions in their voices and on their faces for me! Just such passion and commitment and feeling!! Moves me every time! ❤❤❤
@FooDogDatАй бұрын
Those discordant or a bit out of tune notes in an otherwise harmony invoke a haunting emotion. I recall several top voice coach reactors say that they tell their students basically not to ask to be taught some vocal mechanics to create a certain emotion, or to say when doing an analysis and noting facial muscles, expressions, or mouth configuration, that it is the emotion you feel that performs the mechanics, not the other way around. Then you have to be able to do that in a performance without the emotion taking you away from the performance. Doing this in a duet just seems next level. You will see this in Chinchilla's performances as they are very much on a theme of taking back control and self-empowerment. The emotion is expressed audibly, visually, and lyrically. She was the quiet shy girl growing up who hid behind her mother's skirt when introduced to others. She says her outfits and nails are her armor, it transforms Daisy into Chinchilla. She is the 'Violet' that grew thorns.

Ren’s voice always floats such emotion through a song - I think that is one of the things I notice the most when he does a collab. Someone below mentioned the little jagged edges being the bits that make his music shine so brightly. When combined with Chinchilla's melodic riffs, it is a powerful combination. I do love what you are doing with lifting up new channels - you are a true RENegade, my friend!

At all times, Ren seems to be playing at enjoying life. He acts the fool on clips and his streaming, his Collab's are games he plays at how much he can compliment the other, his video's are made to be different from others, hmm done that now for something different, gotta keep all the ships afloat on this rising tide of mine.. . Such a great human and musician

Comments often mention how this is the bridge they believe he jumped from but I've learned that it's not actually the same bridge. But it is a bridge meant to symbolize that bridge. But idk for sure now 😅
@kellyt5341Ай бұрын
They sang on a large balcony in Brighton. The logistics to set up on a bridge would be a nightmare depending on traffic, how safe is it and so on.
@letsart6434Ай бұрын
@@kellyt5341 yeah I always wondered about that. It's usually windy around bridges too so idk why people used to say that. I did, too, until I learned it wasn't the case 😬

Wonderful to follow your journey into Ren’s and now Chinchilla’s musical archives. This live performance is off the charts amazing! And yes, Ren calls her his musical sibling. I suggest anything from Ren’s Demos Volume 2 or the Big Push, based on your commentary so far. And, I think you will find that Ren seems to have incredible chemistry with everyone he works with. He is an absolute chameleon You’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg! 💔❤️🩹❤️
@alloralou4722Ай бұрын
If you haven’t done so yet if you have time please give Chinchilla’s solo stuff a try. She’s a force and her songs are brilliant. I suggest Fingers Live, Little Girl Gone the official video and Cut You Off. I think you’d get a kick out of her songs, her wardrobe and her singing plus they are dark songs that make you smile. When she sings you know she’s not taking any prisoners and they aren’t as emotionally difficult as this.

I've often said the same thing when commenting on Ren's new releases. I've ran out of ways to say he's amazing. I truly like every song. And I LOVE the majority of his songs. Pretty much the only song that I've found that I didn't like that much is Satellite Girl. It's an alright song, but I usually skip it when it comes up. But maybe because I"m biased by hearing Ren say that he doesn't like that song lol. Chinchilla is so much like Ren where she's so emotive and willing to put it all out there. He calls her his musical sibling. It's apparent why. This is the type of song that should be on the Grammys and those award type shows. But since he's independent, that will never happen.

For me, in terms of older stuff, it's What Went Wrong (part 1 & 2) that never gelled for me, and then there's a bunch of tracks off Sick Boi with no video that also don't do it for me (often it's a tone of voice in his rapping, or too much "I'm doing a bunch of naughty lyrics we're supposed to laugh at,") - I don't begrudge anyone enjoying any of those tracks, his lyricism/wordplay/rapping is amazing. It's just not stuff I find myself wanting to re-listen to, and mostly I don't even watch reactions to those tracks. And then that's in contrast to Everything Else This Man Has Ever Done, which has decimated my lifelong list of faves and placed a ridiculous number of tracks at the very top with a ridiculous number of his other tracks rating incredibly highly.
