I'm a retired military physicist & never has much time for this humanism sort-of-thing (really I no-more excuses now). My problem was exactly what-the-heck is this humanism/humanities stuff anyways. I glad to say Dr Hull Nailed-It (& even demostrated it by his most-elegant presentation). I even felt slightly more cultured just by listening carefully to him. Request an update & pls consider a more traditional hour presentation. In a nutshell, Humanism is society collectively using all available means/tools for its survival & towards a life well-worth living for its members (instead of towards some supposed panaea/end-in-itself like religion, royalty, war, etc, etc). Let me know if I'm close.

Eloquent in elucidating this simple idea. Human goodness and the great ethics of stoicism such as the meditations LANGUAGE inherent in GOODness of humankind; apart from a religion at all. Petrarch is a good example being a lawyer by writing letters in the papal office. Then drilling the language and find human goodness decency and dignity in relative independence of God and bible which confines and constraining. Petrarch’s journey are those who follows him in a civil life. This method is akin to following the goodness and exemplifying a good fair way of liberated living without or relative lot the proxy of God in consort with the Confucius.
