This was great, I been tryin to find out about "what is a normal creatinine level for a diabetes?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Pitebastian Inconceivable Prevalence - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now )? It is a great one of a kind guide for discovering how to lower your creatine levls and get rid of kidney disease without the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my m8 got amazing success with it.

You explained that well way better than my PCP. I think my doc is confused on this. 6 months ago both creatinine, bun , and ratio was all high. I had adema bad. He said if both are high it's just dehydration. I got fluids, went on a renal diet for a month retested and they all came down which is great. But 6 months later and I'm having i.c symptoms, it hurts to pee, and my bun is high not extreme just 21. My ratio is considered normal at 22 but that's high end of normal, my creatinine is low and my gfr is 100 all good things except the slight elevation in bun however I'm swelling again and the bladder urethra issues

I have normal hydration, normal Urea and low creatine causing 40:1 BUN, I have been diagnosed with Thalassemia, as well as 4 genetic mutations that are also troublesome. The BUN creatine ratio was the first clue! It was overlooked as dehydration for several years.

When you get into it more in depth you learn about hyper- filteration also. This may not be taught at a nursing level but out of a hope that someday it will be and that diagnostics for rare and hematological diseases will become more widely practced I would like to add hyper filtration as something important to know ! Especially for those who suffer from rare hematological diseases. A low creatine, and high ratio above 20:1 indicate pre kidney injury which Is often over looked because it is less common, and not included in lower or intermediate level medical training. (Which is due to statistics, politics, Money, and the policies governing curriculum and the financial feasibility of certain diagnostics which is another subject). So, back to hyper filteration ; Yes, it could mean dehydration or heart failure but it is also a sign often seen in hematological disorders like sickle cell anemia or other sickling diseases that affects blood flow, and due to the blood flow being restricted the kidney re filters trying to compensate and in this process some things only filter once and that number maintains at that level regardless of the number of the number of subsequent filterations. and other components change each time it's filtered through. The increase in the ratio should be a flag to look at The blood flow pre- kidney and consider what could be restricting it.

Hi Michael, I have a relative who is a 55 year old male, he just found out that his SCr is really high, now 1.58, calculated CrCl with 56, eGFR 49 (non AA patient).... however the not a lot of the common systems CKD are present, no anemia, normal urination, potassium on the high end, but still within range. No DM, slightly elevated BP. Do you know what could be possible reason for this strange lab findings? :| Thank you for all your wonderful videos and hard work! I am a 2nd year pharmacy student, but without much clinical work at this point. I really can't help explaining what's going on...

@AngelaMoses123
@AngelaMoses123 5 жыл бұрын
Accept when there is a problem with low flow to kindney ! The ratio becomes greater. I think you said it backwards because if they both risewouldn't that be dehydration because if one is rising and the other is staying the same that means it's been filtered too many times, because generally speaking the Christian mostly is only filtered once, correct? So the other is building up bigger and bigger because there is a lack of flow to the kidney and therefore it keeps trying to recirculate?

Hey man love your vids, I'm a big fan. One small detail in this one that I caught that might have confused a few people: at ~3:43, you mentioned BUN should be 3x Creat and gave the example that a Creat of 3 should have a BUN of 30. This makes for a BUN:Creat ratio of 10:1, not 3:1. The reference ranges I was always taught: BUN ranges 5 to 15 and Creatinine is .5 to 1.5. I know everyone has a slightly different reference range but for me, it was so much easier to memorize considering one was 10x the other.
