its about time i crack on with building the engine for edd gasket been sat on the engine stand for far to long its time to crack on :)

Uprated head bolts on that. Was very common to have cracked pedestals, as the underside of the bolt is slightly radius, should have a soft steel washer on all four corners, and std ht washers on the other 6👌

you need to resist the urge to turn the engine up-side down, until the sump is off, keep the shite out of the block... i had a 06 micra K9k full to top with water, stood outside for 14yrs with no injectors, crank was as-new on the bearings, used it with the rods to fix a 2013 qashqai [oilfilter seal blowout] apprentice just wire-brushed the webs, even used the original shells, sweet as a nut, quiet as a mouse, still going...

Maybe ask on RTOC if anyone knows the history of the engine. Even with a slight tune boost upgrade to around a bar they were great fun, most of the issues with headgasket were too much boost not enough fuel. That turbo looks bigger than standard. I think people used to use the clutch from an Volvo 480 to handle the extra boost, but that made the clutch very heavy in traffic.

Machine work is all done now. Liners and block have been decked. The liners are machined separately to give the correct protrusion
