The 1979 1.4 8 valve OHV naturally aspirated engine in the R5 Gordini had a higher specific output than a modern day Chevrolet LS2. Thats pretty impressive considering the similarities. The head was actually a Hemi-design. Meanwhile in the states, the 1979 Camaro Z28 got less than half the specific output from its csb.

@Trina Mcdervish Well the regulations were the european standards of the 70s and US had their standards during the 70s, getting 65,7hp/l in the 70s from a 2v OHV engine is quiet good no matter the comparison. Its more than the 450hp ´70 Chevelle LS6 could bring out before all the smog crap of the 70s.

Great video 👍 I actually used to own four of the R5 Turbo 2’s😎 Three of them( 2 Red & a Silver) had 3 piece Gotti wheels & upgraded inter coolers to make 185hp. My favorite one (Black) was very modified...aluminum doors & roof, (100 kilos lighter), Momo steering wheel, 3 piece Gotti wheels, Sparco seats & harness , Devil exhaust, cam, bored & stroked to 1480cc, adjustable turbo.....250 hp at the wheels & 1,800 lbs....Le Rocket 🚀 🔥 I used to embarrass a lot of Porsche’s, Ferrari’s, and Lamborghini’s back in the day! From 20-120 mph it was hard to beat.

Come on! NASCAR engines keeps evolving! They switched from carburetors to fuel injection in 2012. That's only 20 years after the last carbureted US road car went out of production. The Renault 5 Turbo had fuel injection, a 5-speed gearbox and a turbo. Wanna know what still never had a fifth gear or a turbo ?

At my brothers appartement parking garage there is a Renault 5 turbo fully build and with rollcage, parked. It has such a thick layer of dust on it, it looks like a sepia picture. And it has multiple dust layers on the windows, of people wiping the dust to get a look see inside. For such a small car it has a pretty impressive appearance. I can only imagine hearing it run, probably awe inspiring.

It's not Renault, it's Alpine and Alpine made more interesting models than the A110 such as the A310, GTA and A610.
