Another great video! Another tip for putting the ball joint back in the hub, is use the jack to support the arm, and slowly raise the arm up and place the pinch bolt back in.

For the bolt that holds the ball joint on, you can also (once you have got it turning) tap and turn if it is still a bit tight.

normally when stuff gets stuck i always go by the "there must be another bolt" method. but it seems in this instance it genuinely was just caked up in corrosion

I make it a point of whenever I'm under my car i spray up balljoints and suspension component bolts with a decent penetrating fluid (not WD40). You never know when you'll have to crack off an arb nut to replace the bush or replace a suspension spring which seem to break on a regular basis these days. Lost count of the number of times I've been under a car and found a coil broken off a spring.

I've just replaced my reluctor ring (driver side) on my Clio MK2 2003, but one of the lower ball joint nut and bolt doesn't tighten up enough, presumably the thread has gone. Does anywhere sell these as separate rather than having to buy the full kit, please? Thanks.
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
If you mean the 2 bolts that hold the ball joint to the suspension lower arm, you can replace the nut and bolt with another one. Just remove it and take it to a hardware shop or screwfix and they'll match it up. Make sure it has a nyloc nut. If it is the nut to the actual ball joint. You till need a new ball joint.

A balljoint separator would've made short work of the bottom balljoint. A forked type would do because you were replacing the entire balljoint. An impact gun would've also made life a bit easier. You should get a long air line to that side of the house so's you can use your air tools.

How did you get on driving it back after it failed? The new mot rules are crap, always used to test mine two weeks early so you could drive round till you fixed it and mot'd it, new rules stopped that. If you use halfords tools look at getting a trade card if you don't have one, as long as your can tick one of the trades you get really good discount and tools are lifetime warranty.
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
I get discount bud and yes I use the lifetime guarantee as well.

Minor failures you can drive back home with, dangerous/catastrophic failures you can't. Car immediately goes on the VOSA database as a fail though so the only time it can be driven afterwards is when it's booked in for a test again.
@edd61136 жыл бұрын
@@andrewlaw from my understanding on the. Gov website is minor and advisory are now Mot pass items to monitor or fix in the future, dangerous and major mean the vehicle cannot be driven, wonder what code these got? Such a cock up with the new rules. Simple fail and pass have turned in a list of different outcomes!

I've never had the money to buy a new car out right, even if i did I'm not sure I would want to, I like cars when there about 8 to 10 years old because by that time all the common faults with that particular motor are well known and have fixes for them, also on a computer diagnostic level for that motor by that age is usually 100% cracked so you can do you own programming at home, my vauxhall van is 10 years old and wifes corsa c is 15 years old but what I'm able to do with both those motors with a laptop is remarkable thanks to leaked dealership Tech 2 software, but it's saved us huge amounts is repair bills
