Renault Clio Mk2 Immobiliser Bypass Trick

This tutorial is intended as a temporary solution to get your clio started and get you un-stuck! The only long term fix is to have your key re-programmed which is expensive, however, there is nothing stopping you using this method long term if you don't mind doing it every time you start the car.
Note: I have only tested this on 1998-2001 models (pictured in video) with central locking. It may or may not work on other Renault models. If it does work for you, you can help others by stating your make, model and year in the comments below!

OMG!! so simple yet so effective! bought a clio for my daughter today, good look round it, solid, test drove it etc smooth and nice ride. got it home great, then an hour later it wouldn't start, thinking I have been sold a shed and consoling my daughter I sought the wisdom of youtube, I found this clip, excitedly ran out to try it, of course it started first 2 times because I actually wanted the fault but then the next four times it didn't start.....until I tried your trick, Great jubilations! it worked, all four times!!! it worked for me too with my 2001 Clio. I live in Oz and it would be very costly to obtain a new key (the circuit on mine seems to be broken), I looked for a solution on French sites, and finally yours is working for me (!!!) Thanks a lot, what a relief :)

I had this Problem with my girlfriends clio 2 1.4 Liter and after changing: sparkplugs, Filter, battery and even the fuel pump I could of killed myself seeing how simple and easy the fix would of been... sadly enough I also spend Aroma 300 - 500 € trying to fix it! I had to visit my mechanic and he did something in the bsi module with a professional scanner. Couldn't find any cheap solution like this one in the video.

Had same problem 150 euro thrown away on repair , new crank sensor and reset. Then new battery in key solved problem! But now and then it comes back. In cold or wet weather it helped to just start from position 0 with half throttle even when light is on. But this trick is a good one!

For everyone! The problem immobilyzer: the many many pressing the circuit board will be the cracking/damage foot the edge microchip.(very little crack!! looking for microscope) Solution: RE-SOLDERING the edge chip all foots. It works for me now good the key excellent!!!! The error disappears!!

I have a feeling on mine this is because its the wrong key for the immobiliser, car starts with a key without any electronics in ( just a blade key) But when the fob key is used, the immobiliser flashes and have to perform this! Do you know if the immobiliser chip is separate from the central locking circuit on the board and which chip it is?

Worked on my 2000 Renault Clio Alize phase 2 16v,have checked crankshaft sensor as I thought it was that,but no luck when taken off and cleaned,just looked on KZbin for any other problems with starting and engine not firing up and saw your imobilizer bypass trick ,it fired up first time.Thank you very much for posting.Does any one know how to rectify the problem,is it the chip in the key that is not being recognised.? PS The central locking on the drivers door stoped working years ago and have had to open the drivers door manually

The solution is to fit Immobiliser bypass unit from Remote Key Ltd ,I just fitted one to Clio 1 it started first time ,both remote keys had corrupted transponder chip ,but the bypass unit let the Clio 1 start very easy to fit immobiliser bypass unit just pug into OBD socket under ashtray

==How to repair== If this bypass works for you, the problem is most probably a loose inductor coil inside the key fob (the copper wire thing). The coil is glued to the PCB but you might be able to lift the coil up a very tiny amount due to a cracked solder joint. Also the resistance of the coil soldered in place should be around 29 ohms. Just resolder the ends of the coil. The key fob is poorly designed, the plastic housing and the PCB has too much flex which causes too much stress to the solder joints when the remote button is pressed. Kangoo 1,5dci 2004. When I disconnect immo ring, diode flashes. When I connect it back diode does not turn off. Tryed your solution and it helped but... I had to hold key button for about 10-15s. Diode on the key was flashing. Now immo diode turns off normally. Ehhhh.

In Renault Laguna 2002 dashboard. There is an icon directly below the fuel icon. Whenever I am driving and this light is on my car will start to accelerate itself. I feel sick whenever this happens. Will this work on a 172? Just to confirm... I go to start the car and light flash's fast, (Do I now have to turn the engine over to try and start it to make this work?) I then turn off, turn to position 2 (light is flashing fast) hold the button, turn back to 1 then to 2 (light should be solid or off?) and turn over to start.
