Absolutely love the fact that even with the motor squirming about you didn't give up on the one handed approach. 👍 Good vid.

Lol, I laugh about that myself. I should have invested in an assistant or a stand. But I persevered instead. 👍

@@alsykesuk838 I did it the exact way in the video worked a treat. Replaced it with a cheap unit at first and it didn't work well so replaced it with a genuine Renault unit and had no problems since. Front screen nearly goe over roof now

if the motor has gone would this stop the intermittence wiper motion as well as the water spraying out onto screen

if you open up the motor pipes there is a non return valve clean it and the washers will work if the motor runs

I get asked a lot about the washer motor rubber grommet. You should check before buying a new one that it comes with a new one as clearly some don’t. If you don’t get a new one then I can’t see any reason why you can’t use the old one, UNLESS, on inspection it is cracked, and causing a leak. Without the grommet it will certainly leak.

Tip - try filling the tank right to the top and testing before changing the pump.... These tanks look filled when they aren't.... guess who didn't

Followed the video but have no idea what the "grommet" looks like or where it should be fitted. I have replaced the motor with a new one that works fine but now the water pours out of the reservoir when I fill. I cannot see an old grommet and the new motor didn't come with one!
@iainmc22806 жыл бұрын
Brian the grommet is obviously missing and causing the leak. It’s rubber, black in colour.. And looks like a miniature top hat with a hole in the centre. It slides over the bottom spout of the motor and forms a seal when you push it flush with the reservoir. You need it otherwise you have a permanent leak. Hope this helps you.
@iainmc22806 жыл бұрын
If you pause the video at 7 seconds on you will see it placed on the end of the spout of the motor (on the left of the image). It just slides up that spout.

Iain MC It must have come off with the old motor and presumably is now underneath the reservoir where I can't see it. So, either I have to go buy another motor that comes with the grommet or dismantle the whole assembly and remove the wipers to take out the reservoir and locate the missing rubber washer.
@iainmc22806 жыл бұрын
Brian looking on eBay they come with the new motor. If the old one came off and remained in the reservoir when pulling the old motor out then you should be able to pull it out with snipe nose pliers.. Hopefully without all the extra hard work involved. It should come out fairly easily. Maybe hook it out with a sturdy piece of wire like an old wire coat hanger.

Iain MC Thanks, but it isn't there or even visible. I think it has detached itself and dropped under the reservoir where I can't get to it. I can actually buy a motor from Hong Kong for £3.47 and it comes with the grommet. One delivered to me didn't have it.

I did this but the pump works but no water is coming out when i tested ..help
@iainmc22805 жыл бұрын
It’s probably a blocked pipe, or blocked jet. Make sure you put the pipes on the right way round too.
@iainmc22805 жыл бұрын
If no water comes out when complete and the motor works properly it must be either of the following. 1. No water in tank, 2. Blocked pipe or fitted wrong way round on pump. (Separate each pipe ensuring jet is disconnected and blow air through in both directions to clear). If you can’t clear the blockage replace the pipe concerned. 3. Make sure pipes are on the right way round. 4. Blocked jets ( remove pipe from jet and turn on washer. If a good flow of water and nothing or a dribble when connected it’s a blocked jet. Either clear it by poking a needle and air pressure in reverse direction OR replace with new jet.

Does this work on the older model ? 1998-2001
@iainmc22806 жыл бұрын
Although I haven’t changed one myself, reading through the forums it seems you can with the MK1 Clio too, it’s just a bit tight. I use the same principle throughout most of my work on cars, namely ‘What is the minimum I need to remove to achieve the aim’. Works a lot of the time, but sometimes you just have to do the job fully, usually because you can’t get a spanner on!
