Nice to see a Laguna been preserved & used. I remember a neighbour having locking wheel nut issue’s on his Laguna, took him 3 days to Angle Grind a wheel off

Excellent review of a car that takes me back to my valeting training days at a Renault dealership from 2001 to 2003. Laguna's very comfortable. Some even had a talking man behind the dash checking the computer and going through the car's faults on start-up. Late ones (like this Sport one) are the best-looking. It's very nice to see one again.

A friend's dad had a company-run dark metallic blue Laguna 2.0 RXE with the optional BTCC 'Airflow' spoiler package, M303JUH. It was easily the best-looking, most luxurious car in the street when it was new.

My friend who was a trader got me a V reg DTI Sport from Brighouse Auctions it was an ex management car in 2003. It had 40,000 miles was a comfortable car to drive. It had always been serviced using Mobil 1 oil i kept it up and did a 2nd cambelt at 102,000 miles within 500 miles it dropped a piston and i sold it for spares as it did not make sense to put a replacement engine in the best price we had was £850 from a breaker + labour, it was only 5 yrs old have run a Passat since now with 190.000.

Yes, the tailgate is an excersise in weightlifting. Needs the struts regassing methinks. Lovely review.

I used to work for a company hat ran Lagunas as company cars, obviously, I was not an executive grade, but borrowed them for supplier visits. Very nice to drive, a bit dodgy reliability wise but comfortable. I did have an accident (On a company site) when someone turned across the front, bounced off the kerb on to the Lagauna and turned on to its side, the guy was angry with me, I'd done nothing wrong and they had to get security to get him away! It turned out it was the second car he'd turned over that week! I can confirm that the Laguna was very good in an accident! I also tried a V6 Laguna, smooth and quick in its day The exhaust fell off! The tailgate didn't ruin my life, it was a close thing!

The laguna was a stunning car at the time. Along with the mk1 mondeo. Sadly never got the chance to own one

I remember my mate used to run us down the pub for lunch years ago in one of these. He was a flamboyant and eccentric fellow, so it amazed me that he drove such a dull car.

In the early-2000s, Laguna front bumper splitters used to be a very popular styling modification for new drivers to hot-staple to the fronts of their Vauxhall Novas, Renault 5's etc.

I had a Laguna Mk 1 Estate as my company car in the early 90s. It was huge! It was pretty reliable after it had to be recovered with a broken gearbox after 6 weeks ownership. I remember after I had owned it for year, I stopped at a services on the M1 and thought the back tailgate window was falling out. It turned out that you could press an extra button and just open the glass bit of the tailgate - great feature.

Actually those headlamps came later with the Phase 2. Early Laguna headlamps had a separate indicator housing and I'm fairly sure were glass

Earlier Lagunas came with proper carpets. Volkswagen Golfs and Ford Escorts are still joint-first for crappy fuzzy carpets.

They were great cars. One thing to note though Paul is that this is a facelift model.and the pre facelift launched in 94 had different headlamps and I'm pretty sure they would have been glass like in my 97 pre facelift Mégane. I think the first Renault to have plastic headlamps was probably the MK2 Clio in 1998. And yes I'm sure many probably did turn yellow.

Nearly bought a Laguna but got a Meganne instead, the usual quality French electrics spoilt that experience so I ended up with a Mondeo like everyone else.

I briefly owned a Laguna back in 02. It was an N plate, 1.8, 8 valve I think. It was a nice, smooth and comfortable car that drove very well but it was gutless on hills. The other engines were apparently a lot better.

I had a 8 valve when I was in my late teens back around the millennium and I remember coming back from nightclubs with my mates and having no low down torque at all. Almost give out on hills.

I like this vehicle as well! If I had money I would import one as I hate all the current truck based vehicles. As an American I would call this a compact vehicle that uses its space efficiently. The one thing I cannot get over is that it has only front electric windows; why do EU and UK🇬🇧 vehicles have keep fit rear windows while front windows are electric? I want rear electric windows damnit, so if I want the rear window down I can from the driver's side! I really like the hidden radio, it has air conditioning (does it work?), the radio control stalk looks like something you could bash your knee on. Although it is a manual, and I can drive one (it has been many years, but I think I could still drive a manual, its like riding a bicycle), I would like an automatic transmission, as I am not getting younger but older, an automatic makes driving, and life, much easier. Unfortunately, diesel in the US is $4.49/gallon here in upstate New York, depending on the station as well as the location of said station. Which is about $. 50/gallon more than petrol (gas), for which I have seen recently over $4.00/gallon. Regardless, if I had the money I would get one over a brand new Rolls-Royce.

I had 3 Laguna mk1s, a 2.0L 8v and two 3.0s. The 3.0L manuals were just fantastic cars to drive and quick for their day, quite a sleeper car as well which was quite fun, I hit a genuine 150mph on the Autobahn which upset a few BMW drivers!!.

We got 3 of the Laguna b56 in our family. I have one as my daily car, my wife has one and also my brother. I maintain all 3. They are all midnight blue metallic facelift models, manuel transmission and all are 4cyl 16valve gasoline engines. They are reliable and enjoyable to drive. For me the perfect allrounder. Only problems are that suspension parts like the spring plate and axle carrier are getting rusty and there are no new parts available. So that's tough to repair and only worth it as an enthusiast for these cars. Which I am.

I currenly own a 98' laguna. It is the concorde trim level with fancy features like rear hatch window curtain, 4x el windows, el sunroof etc. It has sometimes popped up in conversations with friends and other people and they either love it or hate it, but as far as I know the people that have been driving along have mostly had positive impressions with a few exceptions. Definitely not a car for 5 people.

The tailgate is heavy indeed, but even a small guy 69 yrs old like me can open it. I have a laguna Mk 3 from 2009 very good car, 6 speed, 132 hp, I don't know why, but the thing is they hardened the suspension and the seats as well, so one can feel the potholes a bit more than with Mk 1 and 2 on bad roads. Maybe is it to improve the handling (but I'm not a specialist). This will be my last car, at least I hope so.

I always thought that the back of Renaults of this era look like you’d paused the video just as someone was about to launch into the F word. Or at least an F word, they are probably saying ‘France’ on reflection because in French the F word begins with a B. I like how it sucked your hair up out of the sunroof. I had a Mk2 Laguna as a company car, I liked it mostly because I was quite young and having such a large and fancy company car was rare amongst my peer group and it was a comfy thing with a reasonable turn of speed but I didn’t like the stupid key card thing and the flap over the radio. You can fit 3 people and three bikes in a Mk2 Laguna but the other two people will not display the gratitude you might be hoping for, I thunk this is useful to know.

it's nice that you like something that isn't a rover :) it's interesting how mk2 lagunas rattle and mk1 you drove didn't.... mk2 is the one good for crashes as the first five star car at euroncap test....not many autistic rants from you, so it was a decent video overall :)
