Everyone's like : 50 k for a renault? hell no! Mind you that your a45 or civic will cost half as much in 2-3 years, while a limited run megane trophy R will probably gain on value in a couple of years. This may aswell be the last full petrol powered hot hatch produced by renault, next gen could be hybrid or smth so think the 50k value from a different perspective chaps! ;) Also think that it's quite close to a lap time set by some prestigious sport cars or even super cars and you'll get just how insane this hatch is. Hats off to honda who also made a great piece of kit, but I like the Renault sport approach a bit more when it comes to limited run track weapons- there's just a bit more madness in them :)

I like this. What a great track toy. If it is genuinely that good and it goes the way of value retention like a R26R, then the buy price is immaterial. 88k € for the record spec car... No back seat, ditched 4 wheel steering, ohlins dampersn, carbon fibre wheels, akrapovic exhaust, carbon fibre body parts, thinner glass ... Not a daily usable hot hatch then. The FK8 was pretty much unmodified (perhaps fitted with stickier tires for its record lap at the time). This thing only laps the ring 3 secs faster in the hands of a racing driver, for double the price of a CTR. Besides, lets face it, most of us will never even come near those lap times anyway. Therefore, in the real world then, the Civic remains the undisputed King of hot hatches in my book. And not only because I happen to own one...

Michael Massart Fk8 that lapped the ring had no AC, no radio, no rear seats, FULL ON ROLL CAGE, and probably non-road legal tire compound, because they kept it a secret for a year and a half after the record setting lap. I recently bought this car. It's awesome. But the delayed throttle response by going full throttle is frustrating, even in race mode. I miss the immediate responsiveness of the Meg 3 RS on "extreme" throttle setting.
@kimmywong1667 Жыл бұрын
so does it feel less touchy and hardcore compared to the mk3? how about the clutch response? Under Extreme throttle in MK3, the clutch response is so touchy and you can hardly ride on clutch in the traffic. Kind of racing car feel. I m just wondering if this feedback still exists in Mk4??
@MajorAMinor Жыл бұрын
@@kimmywong1667I can only speak for the Trophy-R compared to the MK3 250 and 265 I owned. I asssume this also applies for the normal MK4 R.S. Throttle is way less touchy compared to the "extreme" throttle setting on the MK3. The downside is a little delay when going kickdown from anywhere in the rev range. Strangely, you don't really notice the delay when driving spirited and going through some gears. I personally loved and miss that immediate throttle response from the MK3. Driving slowly is less touchy and easier than with the MK3. However the car tends to jerk a tiny little bit just one time when driving slowly and stepping off the throttle gently to let it drive at idle until it settles for idle. I personally preferred the characteristic of the old f4rt engine. You also notice on some little details that Renault really rushed things with the Trophy-R. Several check engine oil warnings that would disappear again after a while while oil level is good. Check start/stop automatic coming up once in a while. Hill holding assistance didn't properly work a couple of times. And of course the same shitty gear box issues taken over from the MK3. The car itself feels very serious and is a lot of fun though. I love the ultra direct and precise steering most and the grip level and mid corner traction is astonishing for a fwd car. Imagine an MK3 with about 30% more sharpness overall. The MK3 was easier to drive on the limit and to feel it on the limit. In that sense it felt like you were more into it. With the Trophy-R it is more the competence of it that the pleasure derives from rather than driving and playing with the front end on the limit. Some slower curves the Trophy-R feels exactly like my old MK3. Other corners you can feel that next level grip on the Trophy-R and it makes you shake your head laughing in disbelieve when you push the throttle in mid-corner going already pretty fast and it feels like on rails. Generally speaking it understeers later than the MK3. I only get it to understeer in very slow roundabouts. Would not dare in higher speed corners.
@kimmywong9995 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your detailed reply. How about the clutch stiffness, position of bite point, shifting throw? Still the same as mk3?
@MajorAMinor Жыл бұрын
@@kimmywong9995 Bite point of the clutch is relatively high, though I think not quite as high as on the MK3. Bite point is also a little more vage and a little wider than on the MK3, which has a very thin and exact bite point if you know what I mean. Shifting throw seems pretty much the same to me. Maybe slightly shorter on the Trophy-R. But notchy like on the MK3.
@kimmywong9995 Жыл бұрын
@@MajorAMinor it seems mk4 wont be my cup of tea. The thin bite point together with extreme throttle map( which gives you a bit racing clutch feel) is the most crucial trait which put me smile even I drive slowly in daily traffic. I would image the mk4 race mode has similar feeling as mk3's linear throttle mapping…. which I would never use driving my mk3.

You have a feeling as if the car is always steping out in the rear, going sideways so you naturaly want to countersteer, but it isnt stepping out, its just 4control pushing it out. It confuses your sense of dynamic driving completly, even to me who preffer tail happy cars personally. Also why the hell would i want a car with no seats in the back a laughable infotainment screen to save a penny worth of weight and carbon brakes that you need to remortgage your house just to buy the damn things and thats also on any car where you will never use the full potential of them on the road. And also why has renault brought out 3 or 4 whatever different versions of the megane out, that like honda bringing out what a, Honda civic S, Honda civic Type, Honda civic Typer R and Honda civic Type R mugen etc etc etc really do you really need 42 different versions of the same car/model. Which also the poor buggers who bought the first megane versions will drop in value when they come to trade them in at the dealer because those were the first versions that came out and better ones followed. I dont care about stupid lap times its not just about a car on track its the person behind the wheel that makes the car. Mind you it will probably be more reliable than its road car version because ther nothing in it to go wrong, even if Honda brought out a super duper dancing civic for 10 million still would not buy it. I like both cars but reality is Honda is better just a more useable car regardless of the styling anyway, 42 versions that is funny renault.
@CARmagazineTV5 жыл бұрын
The price is always going to be a sticking point and the lap time arguably boils the whole car down to a few seconds gained over a rival, which is perhaps an oversimplification. However, having driven it more extensively since the first drive, we reckon that it’s the best hot hatch for driving on track. And ridiculous price tag or not, some people will happily pay to have such a unique car. However, as you’ve said, it’s not, as the price tag suggests, twice the car that the Type R is. Especially as, overall, it’s arguably inferior to the Honda.

Those ohlins units will set you back a fair few grand alone on top of the carbon brakes and alloys. The price reflects the quality parts & materials. Clearly this is a road legal race car so its actually cheap compared to most supercars.

50k for a Renault. Don't think so

But the intake hood in the hood is already cheapest cinema and shows how desperate under time pressure Renault was to crack this record at the Nurburgring. And that's just it.

50k for a Renault factory 🏭. Now that's a bargain.😂😂

Saving 25g on the entertainment screen! Removing the 4 wheel steering? These are cost cutting savings. It only produces 300bhp which is what Mitsubishi evos and subaru wrx’s where producing 20 years ago! This car is just a money maker for the electric car revolution! I’ll make a bigger saving by buying a faster Tesla Model 3, a faster more modern car that doesn’t need petrol
@matthewp90155 жыл бұрын
Glideman you don’t know what you’re talking about or even the point of this car.
@BOUD3K5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, 20 years ago. And they were still, 9 years ago, almost 20 seconds slower than the actual Megane.
@Nicoztrike5 жыл бұрын
@@BOUD3K yep and the model 3 is slow. Try putting Them both on a track
@kpsig5 жыл бұрын
So you are definitely not looking for a track car.

New Mercedes A45s money with almost 120bhp more and four wheel drive....for a Renault Megane, tough sell
@f00lxpl5 жыл бұрын
Mark Rhoden yet Megane is still faster around any track I bet. I would love to see that comparsion. Most powerful hothatch vs the fastest hothatch, both overpriced
@Miixalis5 жыл бұрын
Fake record because this car is not production car. only 500 units will build
@nickwong25255 жыл бұрын
what nonsense are you talking about? if this car is not production car, there wouldn't be 500 units to be sold to the public...

Renault aren’t reliable car, so everybody’s who are saying « The Renault will take some value... bla bla bla » Hell nooo it will be dead before that 😂 Like we love to say en France « Part en Renault, rentre à vélo » Go for a ride in a Renault, comeback on a bicycle
@stickygaiden5 жыл бұрын
Renault sport n'est pas Renault, notamment sur la partie qui fait le plus défaut à Renault : la mécanique. Le Scenic de Mr tout le monde aura jamais la même fiabilité qu'une megane ou clio RS.
@BeamNG_OG5 жыл бұрын
L.S J’suis mort 😂😂 Avec toute les bouses que j’ai achetés comme tu dis, je mange cette megane avec facilité 😂 Et arrête d’insulter c’est trop le cliché du défenseur Renault qui a jamais fais une vidange ❤️
