You handle the old girl really well. Always in the right gear at the right time. The gearbox seems lovely to use. Whole new electronic distributor will be the way to go. She will fly 🦅 with these new bits.

I travelled with my pen friend's family all over France in a white 16TL in the early 70s. One of my mates had a blue 16TL J registered in the mid 70s. Amazingly comfortable cars!

My dad bought a white 16TL in 1969. I was 6 at the time. Remember it well, thanks for the lovely video, brings back memories 🙂

We had one when I was a kid. I remember we assumed the Speedo overread as it seemed to be showing 70 on the motorway, and we couldn't be doing that. Turned out it really was doing 70, it was just so smooth it didn't seem like it!

Thanks, a great tour around your part of the NE. At one time I lived in Consett when I owned a Mk1 R16 TL and it was a breeze to climb the hills out of Team Valley or Rowlands Gill to Consett, front wheel drive was still not so common in the 60's. There were not that many Renault service stations too back then. I had moved up from Leeds/York's area where it was easier to get serviced. I later went on to own 2 more R16 TL's with the updated dash and wiper controls and larger rear light clusters. Nostalgia says I would love another in a heartbeat but practicality says no, im too long in the tooth for fettling around keeping one going 😎 Cheers folks, DougT (in Mancs)

I recall these back in the day. Subjectively, there seemed to be a fair number of these around in the UK. Not common, but a fair number.

It brings me back to the white R16 we had, driving through a Dutch polder on an empty motorway when a Citroën Ami 8 overtook us. This was impossible, these were snails not capable of doing 80 Mph. Later we found out it was the brand new launched Ami Super, powered by the 4 cylinder engine of the GS. We drove the R16 twice to Spain for a family holiday, the white R16 was the first of 4 R16's my dad had.

From Australia We had a poo brown one and it would do the 450 km trip between Sydney and the farm in comfort - well I was just a kiddy but recall so - never let us down and would get back to the city covered in poo brown dust or mud so it never needed a wash. Four on the tree just made sense in giving the front seats plenty of foot space Ours was an update on a Renault 8 which was also a fine touring car and excellent for Australian rough roads Nice vid !

I must get the experience to drive a Renault 16 before I die. Preferably a 1969 TS, as that is what my father had during the 1970s and early 1980s. The registration was APG943H.

Thanks for the POV video. How's the heating in that car, and how is it to drive it in the rain? What I remember of driving the cars from the seventies is bad heating, foggy windows and god awful windscreen wipers 🙂

Nice car. Some suspension noise though. I'd like to have my old 16 back, but without the rust.

@elroyfudbucker6806 that isn't suspension, it's the louvres for the rear window. 👌

The price of really good R16s are going through the roof now, a really good R16tx with low mileage are going for nearly 12K now that is if you can still find one !!!
