Renault Twizy Twy Rain (2018) Windows Review vs Renault Own Windows

To mark one year of Renault Twizy ownership, I treated myself to some new windows to keep me warmer over the winter. I had always had the Renualt Windows, but I have decided to try out the Twy Rain windows from Italy, and so far so good.

The Renault Windows do the job and are an optional extra. I recommend people either pick up some 2nd hand Renault ones to save some money or just buy some 3rd party ones.

With the door why not have roll up roll down windows built into the doors giving a better seal as a car should be

@@dyetscott The Renault Twizy doesn't even have doors as standard, they are an optional factory order. The Twizy was designed for a warmer climate, so these things are bolt ons :)

I think if he add magnets to the windows so they stick to the car, they won't flap so much at high speeds. How did he get the vehicle to go to 60 miles when the top speed is 50 miles?

If you check out my other Twizy videos you will see I have tuned my Twizy, it now has 83% faster acceleration and top speed increased by about 15 MPH.

Not really, its all still within the safe parameters of the motor and battery. The Powerbox (see my other videos) works to protect the motor and battery and will throttle power if things get to hot.

Twizzy is a covered quad bike so was not originally intended to have any windows.

Do u think this would be a good option for a 16year old student? Tomorrow im going to the local drivers-license shop to see if its legal in portugal at the age of 16. And are there any downside to the twizy? Anyways,im going to binge watch some of ur vids now mate!

In some countries the Twizy 45 can be driven by 16 year olds so if possible this will be one of your requirements. The Twizy is a great fun car, its only issues (if you can call them that) are its relatively small range, lack of real windows (but many people use them all year round and in the snow) and in some ways its not very secure as no door locks etc, so dont keep anything of value inside. I love mine.

No problem. Obviously if you have some momentum it will be easier, but on my regular journey I pull from a standstill out onto traffic on a hill with someone in the back without issue. This is a 30 mph road for clarity.

What about adding some magnets to top of the windows to eleminate rattle sounds?

This is certainly an option, or velcro, but in general its not that bad and I don't keep them on for long. As soon as the weather get nicer I take them off as I prefer to go windowless :)

You just need to fit a couple of the external sliding lock knobs on the inside of that same bolt. Followed by inside velcro tabs to secure the tops to the interior to prevent flapping at speed.

Cheers for the suggestions Roy. I keep the windows on as little as possible during the year as I just prefer them without, but people who keep them on longer and have to depend on their Twizy more should deffo consider these tweaks.

Love the idea of the Twizzy but the poor window design is currently a deal breaker. Hopefully something they'll fix in the next version.

Rats and mice love them and cats i have yet to work out why the windows fitted from new ,yes it was all based on motor bikes buying them still poor for Renault..And i am still trying find out why insurance companies want charge 3000 for instance one guy told me its because they un safe ..

I think many insurance companies still don't understand the insurance costs associated with electric cars. I went with a specialist EV insurance company to get a reduced premium and proper battery cover.

can the car get damaged or anything If water comes in? Im almost 15 and I can drive 45km cars, I had ligier xtoo which is basiccally like a real car but I sold it because I want something electric... Do you think I should buy the 4kw twizy??

Not really much to get damaged inside as its generally water resistant (remember doors are an option on the Twizy, by default there are no doors). The main thing that tends to happen is the hazard light switch gets water in it and then fails. So if you will have one open to the elements, I recommend squirting some WD-40 in there from time to time. I think they are a great little EV, but you should test drive one to see if its right for you or not.

Take your little heater to pieces, and reinstall much thicker wire and hardwire it to a 12-volt terminal with higher amperage.. And Bro, its good for me, i am disabled. Its a mobility imp type go cart... Give it to your son ?

Twizy is a great car, never said it wasnt or I wouldnt have bought one. I dont actually think its that cold in their in the winter, the heater was just a little project, no intention of a permanent solution.

@@rob-roybeattie8436 I believe in general UK has more strict road saftey tests that most states in the USA, we have to have a full car assessment each year by the government in this country to confirm our vehicles are still safe for road use. The Twizy is also not classified as a car, its a quadracycle, so its better to compare it to motorbike safety. The car is a 50 mile range, not 25 and takes 2.5 hours for a full recharge. The drive battery is not used to power the lights, dash, horn etc, this is powered by a seperate battery.

The fit is snug, but it needs flexibility to be able to open the door. I am surprised this video related to Twizy windows is getting more attention than my other Twizy videos.

Yeah I have seen similar. If I had the windows on for longer parts of the year I would consider modifying them, but most of the times I am windows off, so not worth the hassle for me.

It's great to see you in the Twizy again! I have the old Renault windows and I want to replace them later in the year. I am looking at the new Renault windows which are only sold in Korea. They look much better than the old ones...

I had read about the Korean ones on some of the forums, but couldnt find out much about getting some without spending alot more money. Happy with the Twy Rain ones though, and when the weather is nicer I like to have the windows off anyway. The Twizy was out of action due to someone driving a screw into one of my tyres whilst it was left, but finally got that changes so can get out an about in it again now.

Yeah I think the doors and windows are a big let down. In the uk for winter driving you’d want a decent seal. A -5°c breeze in your face at 50mph on the way to work wouldn’t be pleasant.

@@SpectrumGeeks To me it's a toy that's fun. But practical daily use I fear it would get damaged easy. Remember to be careful the window hits the finish. In general is it strong enough for daily use when going locally. I dont imagine it being made of strong mmaterial and constant open and shut short journeys will result in expensive repairs. But by then I guess you'll sell it. It's a toy.

Correct regarding the windows, but I just buff it out each summer when I take the windows off. Mine is 5 years old now, and still going strong and putting a smile on my fav whenever I use it.

The Twizy only has a 2 star euro ncap rating, but it is a quadrocycle not a car, so is better compared to a motorbike in terms of vehicle for safety analysis. So in short it is not as a safe as a car. See the NCAP summary below. Structure Ÿe structure of the Twizy stood up well to the tests with little deformation in the front or side impacts. Rearward movement of the steering wheel was well controlled and it was apparent that the structure could cope with a more severe impact. Restraints Ÿe Twizy has an airbag and a four point seatbelt as standard. Ÿese worked correctly; the driver was well restrained in the frontal impact and protection of the head was good. However, owing to the very stiff structure and restraint systems, the dummy neck recorded dangerously high forces and protection of this part of the body was poor. Ÿe region in front of the driver’s knees contained a lot of hard structures. Ÿe dummy recorded high values for knee and femur loading and protection was poor. In the side impact, the head of the dummy was exposed outside the structure of the vehicle, increasing the risk of dangerous head contact in real-world accidents, and the score was penalised. Much of the force on the dummy was deflected to parts of the dummy which do not reflect a real body and protection of the chest area was penalised. Combined with dummy readings which were marginal, protection of the chest was rated as poor.

Wow thats harsh. If you look at where the Twizy is most prominent in sales it makes alot of sense as an EV. Its primary design is a city car in warmer climates, hence it not being fully available sales wise globally. I loved my Twizy.

@@SpectrumGeeks If they cared , the car would have proper doors and windows. They only made it because there's an EU law that tells manufactures that a percentage of their cars must be electric. Check out the Citroen AMI. If what Citroen is saying is true, Renault won't sell another twizy. The car was not made for warmer climates. Theres a thing called rain and it happens all over the world. Not having proper doors was a deliberate choice they made and in my opinion was because they don't want to sell EVS. by the way, I like twizy a lot but I wouldn't buy one because of the doors.
