The Renault ZOE is an all-electric supermini with seating for five people and a decent-sized boot. It offers a decent electric driving range, and it drives so well and features enough equipment that it can be considered a rival for the Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio, particularly as it costs the same to buy as a diesel-powered Clio. However as battery purchase or monthly rental will increase your costs, the numbers really need to stack up for a switch to electric to make sense.

I always have a big bottle of water with me, don't be such an ignorant. Just because you don't need space for big bottle, it doesn't mean nobody does.

Konrad Kowalczyk it’s not a case of being ignorant it’s using some common sense. If the big bottle doesn’t fit you use a smaller bottle that does fit.

This might sound silly, but this is quite important to me. Really. I don't know why, but I got used to huge doorbins so much I wouldn't like to downgrade and take several small bottles. Using a huge bottle in all videos shows how big the doorbins are, not just to fit a bottle, but in general, it gives you a picture. Instead of having 15 storage areas in the size of an asscrack, I would rather have huge doorbins and 2/3 bigger storages in the centre console, like I have in my car right now. And, obviousy, I would like 2 cupholders. I don't know why some manufacturers don't put any
@arsensarkissian8089
@arsensarkissian8089 6 жыл бұрын
Konrad Kowalczyk that doesn’t sound silly at all, it’s your preference and how you like a car. I had an amazing Golf with huge space for bottles that I used to put a 1.5 litre of water but my current car has tiny space so I’ve had to downgrade my bottles so I totally 100% agree with you. Cup holders I’m not worried about really as I don’t really drink anything aside from water.

I've had my Zoe ZE40 nearly a year now. Winter range in the South of England is around 150 miles (rising to 180-200 miles in the Summer). It has been really good and I've only had to use a public charger once in all that time. The list price seems quite high but Renault usually offer some good deals making it very competitive. I am finding I only spend £15 per month on electricity too. Being able to pre-heat the car in Winter is very useful. I agree that the brakes are grabby and I had to upgrade the headlight bulbs because the original ones were quite frankly rubbish.

Jesus Christ I drive a cousin's Golf 1.4 TSI DSG quite regularly. The Golf is definitely more solid feeling and handles better but the initial pick up from the Zoe at junctions is a lot better. At higher speeds the Zoe could do with more power but it is very quiet and smooth compared with anything with an engine. The Zoe also cost a few thousand less after haggling than my cousin's paid for the Golf. The E Golf is way better to drive than the Zoe but costs more and doesn't go anywhere near as far on a charge.

Say what you want about the Zoe, but the position of the buttons on the touch screen looks to suit UK drivers better than our continental cousins. Also, I'm not sure how the lack of a rear armrest is such a big issue - how many B-segment cars actually offer a rear armrest?

If you did 240 miles on a charge, the last 100 had to have been on the back of an AA flatbed. Have to say though that amongst the current available EV competition, it offers a compelling, albeit small, choice. On another note, why be surprised the rear seat isn’t split 50/50. A four seater really so they ought to have made it divide 50/50.

Zoe is a great little car, but If you are going to show it with the charging lead plugged in, please make sure its on a charger so it doesn't give the flashing red nose as it tries to communicate with a non existent charger. They really should have upgraded the headlamps to LED as they are truly abysmal, even with upgraded bulbs.

A range of 200 miles is no problem in summertime but that is if you do not go above 60mph though. Im always driving in queues and max speed on the motorway is practically 60mph for short periods. That gives me over 200mi in range.

I may be unusual here but I almost never use a glove box (usually has the original manual in there) I never put bottles of water in door pockets (I hate crap rattling about in door pockets) and I don't much give a damn about 'infotainment' systems. My phone does everything just give me Bluetooth. Stop banging on about glove boxes and door bins and get driving.

I could fit a large bottle in my Zoe door pocket. I think 1.5 litre. I don’t know if that one was bigger. But I wouldn’t want to have a bigger bottle anyway, I’d spill it. I was a bit confused by how Nicki explained the motor variants. As far as I understand it, the R90 is the 22kw charging option and the Q90 is the 43kw charging option but with the older motor design. The battery sizes are unrelated to the motor choice. All the new ones are 40kwh longer range versions. I can’t imagine anyone is still selling the original smaller battery car new. Second hand ones would still be there though. I think it still matches up quite well in terms of interior style and features with newer cars, but there’s no escaping the fact that it is an old car. They do need to do a completely new version rather than keeping on with iterative upgrades. And it’s interesting that Nicki says it’s not particularly exciting to drive. I’ve had a lot of fun with mine both around town and on twisty roads. So I’m excited to try some other sportier EVs in future to see how they compare.
@04rquin
@04rquin 6 жыл бұрын
I think she was describing the kwh of the battery rather than its charging speed when discussing the different variants. You can still buy a new Zoe with the 22kwh battery but only in expression trim & literally noone does, the (Z.E 40)41kwh battery isnt much more with current offers!
@christill
@christill 6 жыл бұрын
Ryan Quin Interesting. Didn’t know they offered it in any trim. I think offering different battery sizes is important. But most likely everyone will start at 40kwh. Would prefer to see a smaller one to make them undeniably affordable for everyone. And for those who really aren’t going to need more than 80-100 miles.

I drove already 7.000 km in 6 weeks and I payed 5 Euro all in all for electricity. So that's quite cheaper than a gasoline car. Can you show me any gas station, where you can get gasoline for free? Yes, I got the highest battery rent, with 119 Euro monthly. But therefore I don't have to worry about battery degradation. And if ever I will run out of electricity anywhere in Europe, the Renault service will bring me to the next available charger for free. All in all 124 Euro for 7.000 km driving is still more cheap than gasoline.

What I most like about the Zoe is the battery to engine ratio. The 90HP equivalent of the Zoe, together with the 40kW battery makes it go farther, while the new Leaf has increased the engine power to 150HP, so the battery increse is negligible. And, those 90 HP of the Zoe are enough to move it happily in town. I'll keep the Zoe for now!
@eDriver
@eDriver 6 жыл бұрын
+Susazeu Yes you are right and that was the reasons why I bought a Zoe. Also the price is much lower, than for a Leaf. I drove in 2 month already 8,500 km and I am very satisfied with the Zoe car. SUre it's not a high class luxory car, but it's fine... Why do I need 150HP? Yes In Germany are some roads without speed limit, but hey, the 140 km/h what the Zoe can do is enough. Driving faster just consuming much more electricity. So I usually drive 100 km/h. Where 120 km/h needs a lot of electric energy.

And, of course, the Zoe is the one, electric auto that we cannot get here in the U.S. Luckily, we have the Tesla and several others, but the Zoe would bring electric vehicles into the homes of many more people. So it really is a shame we don't have it here in the states.

@edwinsmith9617
@edwinsmith9617 6 жыл бұрын
It’s pretty simple, car range (or mpg in fossil fuel engines) depends on many factors so can be wildly different depending on how it was conducted. This means regulatory agencies come up with a standard test that can be easily repeated between models so you can get an accurate comparison between different vehicles. This test isn’t always accurate compared to real world usage because the real world has many random factors that make it hard to test repeatedly in the same way. This is why mpg and NEDC battery ranges are higher than what you actually get. The difference is battery cars usually advertise real world range with fossil fuel cars you just get lower than advertised range as an excepted fact.

The whole battery thing makes this a no deal, even if you can buy it outright. I mean how long before the option is removed and you basically lose ownership, not just of the battery, but the whole car? Which shall the manufacturer decides is no longer profitable supporting leaves you with a bricked car.

Electric cars generally get a bad press, Ok so you cant drive them when it rains but do you really want to be driving in the rain? and if you plug in your phone or use the headlights the battery will go flat but only after half an hour or so. You also cant use them in a carwash but you can always use a moist rag to give it a wipeover ( rubber gloves must be worn ) . It just requires a change in behaviour and you electric car will serve you just fine :-)

It is cheap in terms of company car schemes. And it is cheaper than the Prius. Also according to your figures, and average mileage per month. £110 is 2 weeks of petrol. (95 litres will get roughly 600 miles, average mileage for a car is 1200 miles per month, electricity costs are 2p/mile or free) I know electricity costs need to be added but they are less than the price of petrol.

Exactly waht i was thinking, take the vauxhall ampera you dont need to rent out the batteries from vauxhall however after every 7 years you need to replace the batteries the costs is around £7000.00/£7500.00 est. That works out to be around £80.00 a month.

+Clayton Pillay Very good decision! Before I always lough about that electric car driver. A gasoline car is better and there must be a nice sound. Now driving electric is so much relaxing and it's just nice, to have no vibration and no noise when driving. @Wet Lettuce If you think, you need noisy car, that other people can hear you... Just think about what's wrong with you. Do you still living i caves, where the loudest is the most important? With electric car, I don't have to change gears anymore.. And hey, it's not an automatic, it's just one fix gearbox translation from the engine to tires, without clutch. Also the acceleration from Zero, can't be beaten by any gasoline car. I never like to go back anymore to gasoline cars.

@Louis Greenleaf just try electric driving for some days, maybe over weekend. Not just one round around the block. And promise, you will not like V8 anymore, because it's just noisy, vibrating and dirty. You will reach your destination, with electric car, much more relaxed. You will not believe, if you never tried....

Why you compare it with an i3 which is from 15000 pounds up more , ps it only holds 4 , don’t crash it the carbon body work expensive to fix and try getting someone to do it l ps looks like sh- t and inside a mess , the wheels are bike wheels

We just had an incident here in sweden, were 13 Zoes belonging to our communal eldercare would not power on when the temperature dropped below -15c. So do not choose the Zoe if you live in a wintercountry.

www.expressen.se/motor/bilnyheter/elbilarna-strejkade-i-kylan-hemtjansten-kom-inte-fram/ Use google translate. According to official statement from Renault you cannot expect a Zoe to work if it is parked in a temperature below -15C.

The problem appears to be that the 12V battery is not recharged fast enough if you do short distances and when the 12V battery runs out the car will not start. Renault will not fix this issue in a pretty typical usage scenario for such a small car.

can`t you stop complaining about "cheap" plastic. every plastic trim is cheap(er than metal or leather f. ex) and if you´re buying an premium car you have to pay premium price. I´d rather spend 250k on a NEW zoe with double the range on battery than a USED 2year old i3...
@eDriver
@eDriver 6 жыл бұрын
Well, you get what you pay. BMW i3 is quite more expensive than a Renault Zoe... But I choose the Zoe Q90 Z.E. 40, because it's much wider range with one battery load.
