I remember I was quite a bit in awe of Benazir before we met - I had read her book and done tremendous research. For me she seemed a real life heroine.
We instantly struck a rapport, because she was the one to initiate it, I remember she insisted on my calling her Benazir, It didn't seem the right way to address a Prime Minister, but she was adamant, 'just Benazir - that's it!'
And she would call me 'Seemi' that's how she pronounced it. Then I found out Seemi was also a Pakistani name.
I was struck by her lack of pretension; she was without airs or graces. She introduced us to her children, personally fed each member of my crew with cakes and tea; and gave me a lovely silver momento which I treasure.
Benazir was one of the few guests with whom the friendship continued and grew. We'd meet for lunches in London, We corresponded by email, I have all her affectionate letters, We spoke on the phone. I remember everything about her. The 'sisters-lunch' in London with Benazir and her sister Sanam - and my sister Amrita and me. I remember her infectious and spirited laughter...and her incredible warmth...
She had seen my documentary on Rajiv Gandhi and asked endless questions about him. She was very curious about India, Indian life and Indian politics. We also had a lot of 'girlie-girlie talks'..
Benazir was always restless and yearning to go back to Pakistan. As if each month away was hard to endure.
Her last e-mail to me was just before she returned to Pakistan on that fateful trip. She was so excited: but it filled me with a foreboding.
Benazir had extraordinary courage. Too much courage...
We lived in different countries, Benazir and I -but at least I knew she was there in this world.
And then, in a flash, she was gone. I shall miss her enormously.

This is called art of interviewing!!! Most appropirate questions asked in each interview by Simi ma’m...I wonder in those days without google how much work it goes into for preparing questions to be asked...I notice this in every interview a lot of home work is done about the guest’s life...Perfection!!! I am a big fan of this best show of the century...Thanx to youtube otherwise we would not have seen this grace..Stay blessed Simi Ma’m.😊

Time made her strong.she definitely must have cried a lot every when she was going through the hardships, but hidden. When a person suffers a lot..... that too since childhood, he/she becomes easygoing/calm while dictating to others.

benazir bhutto is an epitome of strength and grace. The way she describes her last meetings with her father brought tears to my eyes yet she was so bold while narrating the tragedy. The way she confessed about how relaxed she felt after the death of Zia who had caused so much of turmoil portrays her honesty.

As a 90's kid, I have just heard these legendary names through the Grapevine and for me to go back through these people's life is a great learning experience. I'm awestruck with the diction and the style of language which is very rare in today's world where people are trying to emulate the western slang. Thanks for posting such beautiful episodes.

When I read the news of assassination of this empowered lady, I was in shock. I couldn't believe my ears and eyes, since then I have aimed to become a leader who can fight for the truth and dignity of nation just like her. I am from Nepal and she has inspired me in million ways and this interview just kept me in awe but still motivated me to be strong and focused on my ambition. I hope she is living with her father and grandparents peacefully in heaven.

There is something MAGICAL about listening to an interview of a person who is now dead, and that too asssiantiated and that too such a special leader. If I were a liberal arts student (or the ones who makes movies), I would definitely make a documentary on her as my thesis project! As a science graduate, living in the west, i am almost COMPLLED to write or explore something on her! My mother is extra-ordinarily strong woman, outshining my father, there is something so mesmerizing about strong women, so special. Maybe, someday, i will do more research on her and write a short article or a blog. Amazing interview!

But simi Ma'am you had help us reach these incredible people through your show. And to be honest I had personally learn so many lessons from these people and it had change me in so many ways. There are lots of emotional line in the show which they express it from the heart which is soo good... Beautiful! Absolute soulful and intense piece of conversation this was.. Simi, I am a huge fan of your show and I love the touch of class you add to your conversations, you make them come alive.. I have loved all your episodes but this one was the most eloquent of all.. Having to see you and Mohtarma Bhutto in a dialogue was like Elegance meeting Grandeur. I can go on watching this episode endlessly. Its when I am too restless and tired with this journey called life, I just pull up an episode of Rendezvous and just so miraculously feel rejuvenated and redeemed by the end of it. Talk shows are umpteen, but the aura and rejuvenating touch that you have makes you and your show so unique. You touch lives; at least mine you sure do. How it makes me wish had I been a celebrity, I would have loved to be sitting on the couch there and unfolding every bit of my life to you.. Loads of love, Zainab ☺

You know the mannerism, decency the decorum on when you interview a guest without them feeling nervous or tensed, as if they're in safe hands or cradle singing lullaby and let them speak from the heart nothing seem pretentious felt was amazing. Simi Ji, You are a woman of class. I feel deprived that after such a long time I watched Rendezvous. You have interviewed some of my most favourite people in there and especially this one. BB Shaheed was a great woman. The greatness is not in the fact that she was the daughter of the man who transformed the nation from gallows to democratically ruled frontline state; rather it was her ability to make tough decisions, her brave nature, and after all her dedication to a social cause. I have had a rare opportunity to see her in a public gathering once; heard from the PPP elders and top govt. officials that she was a fearful leader and possessed such a charisma that even the toughest of bureaucrats would not say a word in front of her. You have done a great job by asking her questions related to her personal life as well as about the times of her father's death followed by being jailed. I haven't seen noone except you asking her those bold questions in such a pleasant way that she didn't feel it and answered all of them. I have gone through almost all the comments here. It seems some people still think that they can say anything in public without having a little feeling of responsibility at all. My request to all those who think this their right to say whatever they want to; about anything and anyone, please realise the fact that your comments exactly show how have you been brought up and from where you belong. This medium and other media must have some ethical rules which should never be violated. The person commented last and others before him, using foul language and describing distorted facts must be stopped from doing so. We live in a knowledge society and things must be discussed based on knowledge not on any rumour or baseless info. Thank you once again Simi ji for doing such an impactful series of talk show. Hats off to you!
