Two things I’m loving about this series: 1.) how Ren treats the Hermit cards as actual people (we’re gonna give Impulse a farm so he’s happy) 2.) Ren’s little observation tower of shulkers

58:17 That was a pro gamer move from Etho! He put two useless item on Hypno beforehand so that when he gets the Miner item card he can use Hypno's rare attack in back to back move and kill two afk hermits on Ren's side. (Hypno's rare attack is that he can attack afk hermits instead of the active hermit, but everytime he attacks an afk hermit he loses an item card. So putting two useless card makes him power up for two back to back uses. Incidentally Ren had two afk hermits on very low health. It's shame that the miner card took really long time to come out)
@chair5613
@chair5613 Жыл бұрын
It wouldn't have made any difference. The card gets knocked off after the attack, and then he can just attach another at the beginning of the next turn. Same result. Say Hypno has one builder card attached when Etho starts his turn. He plays a miner card, attacks and knocks out an AFK Hermit, and the builder card gets removed. His next turn, he plays another builder card, attacks and knocks out an AFK Hermit, and he wins the game still.
@sayanbiswas7364

@@chair5613 That would imply he has a good draw of miner cards, which he didn't. Yeah he could keep the 2nd useless card in his hand, that would make no difference - he could just attach it on his 2nd Hypno attack. I guess he was just fidgeting to do something, since he had such bad rng.

Hey Ren! I feel like you can get more value out of the “splash potion of healing” card by changing hp breakpoints for your hermits rather than squeezing out as much healing as possible. A great example of this happened early in the game here where your 90hp impulse was faced against a 90dmg attack from Jev. While you only would get 20hp from that heal you would either force Etho to use a damaging effect card (which in general are pretty great) or you would force him to take an extra turn to take out your hermit allowing you to attack 1 more time, which means extra damage.
@mikaelsanchez3609
@mikaelsanchez3609 Жыл бұрын
If he added some chorus fruit he could still be able to guarantee attacks while swapping hermits. Then after a few swaps he could heal them all. It would definitely be more efficient
@lunar_orchid9308
@lunar_orchid9308 Жыл бұрын
i think ren was concerned etho might have a sword card or something that would add the 20dm back and still kill his hermit. Thats why he did the bit with running to etho and asking if he had a damage effect. He didn't want to use the heal just for etho to still kill his hermit.

There have been many awesome things to come out of TCG- hermits getting super active, lots of crossover and collaboration, lots of bonus content, and players geeking out to name a few. But one of my absolute FAVORITE things has been all the hermits using the attack names to do impressions of each other. I love when hermits do that out of the blue normally ("booshes" or "xyz of doom") but this has taken it to a new level and I'm absolutely here for it.

28:34 with 13 hermits in your deck, you have a 75.7% chance of drawing at least 2 in your opening hand. In my opinion 9 hermits is the absolute minimum with the ideal being somewhere between 10-12

at 44:31 Iskal took 70 damage but they only reduced his life points by 50. That means at 45:47 he should have been reduced to 80 but instead he was at 100. This may not have made a difference here but little things like that can end up making a big difference in games like this.

Thanks for the match! I do have to say that I think putting attaching items after attacking is a big deal and in my opinion could effect the outcome of an entire match. It's basically forgetting to play a land and coming up short to summon a creature in MTG. Even in non official match that really wouldn't be allowed unless it's your first couple matches. Especially since that damage or lack of damage in close games could make it or break it.

In two matches, we saw the upside and the downside of having a couple of extra hermits in your deck. If the opposing player has trouble drawing hermits, you'll likely win because you're more likely to have an AFK hermit on the board. When the board is full of hermits and you keep drawing more instead of useful cards, your options are severely limited.

One card type that would be cool to see in this game would be items that can act as two different types. Ie. whichever is more useful to the hermit it's attached to is what it acts as. That would be an interesting alternative to 2x item cards which are currently the only optimal type of item card to ever include in a deck, being only limited by how many you can obtain. I guess the biggest problem would be manufacturing such cards as beef would have to make up to 45 different combos.

11:48 Legitimate answer to Ren's question... It COULD matter. There could be strategic advantage to playing out of order. Example: I have 2 hermits that I want to power their abilities with my card. If the attack succeeds, I want Hermit A to have the card... but if it fails, I need Hermit B's ability (like YOLO) instead for a future turn. Out of order card placement gives me this advantage of selecting card placement after an attack result that would impact resource allocation. Another way it could be useful is in matching weaknesses of Hermit types. Example: IF opponent's hermit lives, I need to resource Hermit A because of their extra damage, but if opponent hermit dies, I want Hermit B's ability for the next opponent Hermit that will activate... so I gain advantage by knowing the attack result before card placement. ...but these are just theoretical advantage in the game mechanics... none of the hermits are this shady. Note: In the specific case, Ren is correct. His situation didn't matter... but it is a problematic precedent that could theoretically impact game play in rare circumstances.

@grondhero

I haven't seen the Hypno close up, but isn't his blue power *Got 'Em* just require two items? So Etho could have won much earlier. Hypno uses his power _then_ loses an item card (meaning he'd have to have another item card to attack with *Got 'Em* again). That's the way I understand it. Maybe it's worded differently, but I'd think his card would have _three_ slots for his special power if it required all three to be filled. Anyway, I'm enjoying the TCG mixed in with regular episodes.

The solved game of Hermit TCG: This is an attrition game, very basic, no strategy, no decisions. You never tap a hermit to switch him for another one. you let him die, you get an extra attack to lower the other's hp. You just have to make your oponent "waste" as much damage as possible. E.g: a hermit has 70 attack, you have a 20 hp hermit, it will die, oponent wasted 50 damage. If you switch, those 70 damage go as full to your healthy hermit. Bad. It's just a maths game where given your cards and the energy you will kill X hermits in Y turns. Whoever has X the closest to 3 and Y the smallest, wins, that's it. Only attach energy to a hermit when you're the one attacking first with it, else you're putting yourself behind. So basically, never waste an attack, that's an extra 50-80 health you're giving your oponent, making him eliminate you easier and giving him the initiative. as per deckbuilding: The lame "good against X bad against Y" stats just makes this a metagame within you guys, but it's just better to go mono X. Chose your highest stat hermits, ignore anything else and put energy for them. Same goes for utility cards, their power should be compared to having an extra hermit or an extra energy card. Why bother with a card that does 20 damage when you can have a hermit tanking 300 hp and dealing 80 damage each turn. Go mono X, and if someone goes all in against you, they will also lose against the rest, so it's just a rock paper scissors. If this game was properly designed based on something like Magic the Gathering, and not pokemon, the difference in the colour pie gives the choice for going multiple colours over mono, sacrificing mana consistency for having other effects (card draw from blue, removal from black or white, etc).

Pretty sure in any card game, you can still do anything after attacking, like hearthstone for example, I can attack first, then play any cards I want if I have the mana / time. As long as it's your turn, the order of attack / item should not matter at all. It's actually beneficial to wait sometimes even. Say you have a hermit who can rolls green does another attack, I would wait with my instant damage card until after that roll, if i win it, I save the damage item for the next hermit, if my attack is red and I only attack once, I play the insta damage item and kill the hermit this round. It open up strategy options. That's why it shouldn't matter, would give the game way more depth.

It's as if Ren doesn't follow the turn order on purpose just to quarrel, lol. Forget to place the item before the attack once, fine, forget it twice in a row because you're new to the game, awkward but ok, forget it every time in every match and each episode, and argue that it doesn't matter rather than just following the phases of the turn in order as intended by game design - come on dude, no one wants to have to deal with that nuisance.

The giant TCG map over the first half of the video feels like a water mark on a ripped video. Very distracting.
