When I was in highschool, one of the electives you could take was philosophy and the running joke in our school was that whenever anyone took the philosophy class, one of the things they would realize when the class studied fascism was just how close the US was to fascism. This was back in the early 2010s, this was long before Trump came to power. Fascism has been present in America at least since the Cold War because fascism has always been more favourable in America to communism and many would say that it has been present since the very beginning of America since the colonists decided that they had the God-given right to steal land from the people who were there first and that they had the right to own another person based on the colour of their skin. I am aware. By the way, I know this may seem odd to some people, but I promise from my own experience in a republican, right, dominated town and family, that most conservatives don't actively look for segregation. Many conservatives simply follow what others say, which, in the South, where I live, is usually positive things, but that's how they capture voters.. by promising a better future with phrases such as "make America great again" and "the good old days" and then not deliberating on what that exactly means.. its manipulative, and its working!! Hell, it got me for a long time! I cannot share ideas without being labeled a "liberal" and people not taking me seriously because they think I'm "Not looking deep enough into it" This is not good! Not because im butthurt, but because this mentality prevents the spreading of ideas.

We do not ignore what is said and done by the right and we don't take what media says as gospel. If a source tells me that trump said something I'm going to look for trump actually saying that thing. What's sad is that a lot of trumpers aren't even aware of many things he has said and done because right wing media won't report anything that might make him look bad. It doesn't report a lot of things that will make the right look bad so the people in those bubbles remain uninformed. And when it reports fake news no one investigates to see if it's actually true.

@@creativerealms Theoretically yes, but historically centrists always capitulate to fascists as they start shifting the parameters of what is acceptable political discouse. Conceptually as well, as centrism itself is not a theoretical framework through which to see the world, nor does it possess any specific ideological underpinnings of its own. It is only characterized by taking the "middling" stance (whatever that might be; what is the middle point re: slavery, for instance?), and is therefore prone to being swayed in another major way. Another major flaw is centrists tend to only concern themselves with hard policy to the exclusion of everything else, and that is def a point fascists like to lean in on.
