Getting tired of the whole "flood central Australia" plan that people keep coming up with. You pump seawater down into the Eyre it'll last about seven minutes - the entire lake is like, 50 feet deep at its lowest point so it's gonna evaporate faster than we can pump water. We'd have an ocean of dirty salt in the middle of Australia, and the soil there isn't usable for farming anyway. And it'd cost trillions upon trillions.

16:08 That's the building of the Antwerp port authority. It's built on top of an old fire station that's been repurposed. So think Ghostbusters, but instead of busting ghosts the building's responsible for running a harbor that handles a quarter of all container shipping in Europe (about 10 million 20' containers). So yes, it's a pretty big military target if you're planning to destroy Belgium. Congolese and Dutchmen, pay attention!

Reminds me of that time Superman turned 'evil', and went and pushed it up straight, and there was a vendor who got pissed, cause all of his merch was ruined. Later, when Superman's back to normal, he 'fixes' it, so it's back to leaning, and the vendor had just got in his new merch that depicted the leaning tower standing up straight.

About the Leaning Tower of Pisa - it's not true that we can "totally fix it". The tower took so long to build that each layer that was built the architects and builders attempted to "straighten" the tower by literally just building straight up from the previously leaned-over lower level. But each attempt and level added caused it to lean further since the centre of gravity was being shifted further from the tower's centre point. So the building ended up with a slight curve to it (you can see that more clearly if you copy a photo into like Paint and draw a dead-straight line upwards from the edges of the lowest level) which, if totally moved level at the base would cause the entire tower to collapse. The reason it can't lean any further is actually due to the fact they DID in fact shove a whole bunch of concrete underneath it (very slowly over a long period of time) to extend the foundation out and finally stabilize it properly - as well as push it more "upright" by a tiny amount so the new concrete base itself wouldn't have problems.

Now I agree that Musk's tweet was probably a joke that people took too seriously. But as someone whose father is a big ancient alien's believer, I will say that there are a shocking number of people who do think that it's impossible for ancient civilizations to have created things like the pyramids or stonehenge. Is Musk one of them? Probably not. But there are people out there who legitimately think "This culture was too primitive to build such an amazing structure, aliens must have done it, we will cherry pick any evidence we can find to support this claim."

Couple of points. The digging a canal to fill Australia with water, there's a very good reason there's a desert there. Because the water evaporates. Also you know, most of it isn't below sea level and getting water to flow uphill isn't terribly easy. And they actually did try something like that in southern California. It is now one of the most toxic lakes in the world. It doesn't end well. Also actual academics during the Victorian age and even later INSISTED that such things as the Pyramids and things like Maccu Pichu couldn't have been built by the locals, since no one non European were ever anything more than barbaric savages, because colonialist racism. So it's not much of a reach. Mostly though the "aliens built it" is a thing idiots who have never built a sandcastle never mind a shed say because people couldn't have built things in the past. People were stupid in the past! And look, there's pyramids found all over the world! It's almost like piling stone blocks up in a big triangle is the easiest way to build a tall building without it falling over or something.
@Skyte100 Жыл бұрын
If they dig a channel it wouldn't be a desert. Eventually enough water would evaporate that it changes the weather so it rains more and it starts changing from a desert.

On the topic of randomly being teleported to a dangerous location, you'd be so much more fucked if you got sent to a cave instead of the outback. In fact, I can think of many places in which you're practically guaranteed to die. Middle of the ocean, caves, directly above lava, multiple active war zones, chernobyl nuclear power plant, some random place in antarctica, sentinel island, many of the incredibly polluted lakes across the world that could give you a lethal dose of radiation within seconds of contact ect ect. The outback is child's play compared to every one of these. Russia with no clothes would kill you quicker. Other ones include: Any body of water infested with dangerous animals, deep in the rainforest with no navigational equipment, anywhere the average person isn't supposed to be in North Korea, most places that have big cats large enough to prey on humans, brain-eating amoeba infested waters, directly on top of certain insect nests, any military installation with a kill on sight policy, and very high altitude locations.
