No Man's Sky in 2024 has the best base building system Renfail has ever seen, as he plays the game for the first time after the Worlds Update Part 1 dropped. Let's Play No Man's Sky with Renfail as he explores base building and talks about why he loves it in this game more than any other he's tried.

Hey, thanks for the shoutout, appreciate that a lot. Base building has been one of the major foundations of what I have been doing on YT. And even while I took a step back from it for some time, the itch to get back into it has been strong since the Worlds Update. 😄 Just a quick note: what I specialized in was Glitch-building, which can be frustrating for some players, but it does open up the building world even more.

Beeblebum makes some great tutorial videos for base building. ScottishRod also does some really cool ones. One of the things I really love about this game is how you can take your interest and just do that thing. Ricey's Starship Emporium channel does ship hunting, just going to different systems and finding cool ships. My main focus is exploration, so right now I'm going to different galaxies and trying to put down a base in every galaxy.

I like garage door...... I use them for walls on paradise planets and hazardous planets, i like being able to open and close them, having them all on one circuit is really awesome seeing a base open up with nice weather and close up when it is not...... But what i really like is collapsible bridges and roadways using the garage door next to each other...

Nope. 18 Quintilian planets across 256 galaxies. If every human on earth discovered one planet every second, our own sun would burn out and die before we discovered 10% of the planets. It is functionally infinite. We are much closer to 0% than 1% at the moment.

The algorithm brought me here looking for reactions to the update and I’m so glad it did. Super enjoyable content and thoughtful and intelligent with it. I’ve loved NMS since launch (tbh I was a bit of an apologist for the initial release) but had a big break. Coming back to it now on Switch to see what they’ve added and it’s truly incredible. Just to second a recommendation I saw in the comments on this video - Subnautica. From what you say about liking story and base building, I’d be quite confident that you’d love it.

That's an easy way to get to new galaxies without going through the core of a galaxy to get to the next. Going to the core can definitely cause damage. Though I do recommend it even with the damage. The further you get from the starter galaxy, Euclid, the more often you are the first anywhere you go.

I feel as awesome as you man when playing No Mans Sky. I bought it last month. After MANY hours building bases in Fallout 4 over the years. And I agree....this is something else. With your pirate dreadnought complete with fleet hovering overhead as there is no atmosphere lol

I like the fact that we can have a really bare-bones base when necessary. Base computer to claim the site, teleporter & a bio-furnace to charge it up and you're good, you can come back later and add if required. I usually use a solar panel and battery for the teleporter so it runs 24/7, but you can teleport to an inactive one and just charge it enough to get away again.

Try to build your bases somewhat elevated as sometimes the terrain and flora can regrow. Especially with big resets during updates where they change the terrain generation for example. One wall height off the ground usually does the trick for me. There are rare flat areas you can find, actually I think very rare now, as this was how the game started you out in a base. Now most of the terrain is sloping and will most likely contain things that will clip through the floor of your base if you build on or too close to the ground.

until recentyl i was more the Space Invaders / Quake type of guy, but NMS really inspired me to build bases for many reasons. Apart from the endless possibilities you have in this game, the simple fact, that you can build bases together with your friends and create some sort of "Civilisation" on one planet with anyone else playing this game is just wild. However, i am not an expert and i cannot glitch-build on PC, since i only play VR. Beeblebum is definitely head of the base building masterclass. I joined the Brolo Republic and start building a base on one of the planets, which was partly underwater with areas spread across more than 1500u.Since the planet was abandoned due to biom changes with the latest update, i will most likely delete it and start all over again on one of the new planets. But it did a little tour while doing my latest VR benchmarks. Here's what me being a Noob in base building has done so far: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5WmYpWlfJaVaNk

I bought and immediately refunded it.. because I knew from the first hour that I would lose hundreds of hours in the game, especially base building and ship building, so I removed the tempation from my hard-drive entirely. I am also hoping that Dune Awakening has extremely robust base building to match or surpass Conan, because I know I will be balls deep in that game for the long haul. Another reason to avoid the hundreds of hours NMS would have robbed me of. Im just in a holding pattern until Dune Awakening gives me a landing site.
