there was concept art at one point of gordon getting a cyborg arm with a built-in portal gun. Valve has definitely considered it but who knows if it would ever make it to production. there have been other games that played around with the portal mechanic at this point so they might not feel like it's novel enough 14 years after the last portal game. We know they're working with a lot more in-depth physics simulations than ever before and I suppose there's nothing about that that would preclude portals so as usual we'll just have to wait and see

I liked Aperture Tag and disagree with a few of your points With the 'sometimes you just jump over the blue gel' thing I think you've failed to realise that you don't have to hit jump at all, if you run straight from orange gel onto blue gel with high speed it launches you anyway - and that makes the launches in the game super consistent As someone who just played AT and not any other Source surf game, the surf ramps in AT were very intuitive and having to airstrafe on them would be very unintuitive to most players, though maybe there's a way of having both work; but as you said yourself, this is a very old mod And regarding the ending, the incinerator isn't the way you're meant to go - you can get the good ending by escaping from the incinerator. I didn't realise it was so long into the pit, though
@iHateHandlesGetRidOfThis16 күн бұрын
Another aperture tag enjoyer here, I honestly didn't even know about the falling into orange for several minutes thing since beating it, and since getting gels into places they probably shouldn't be was one of my favorite things in portal 2, this game was mostly just a blast for me... disappointed to see people disliked it so much.

I loved Revolution but at times it felt like a downgrade of Portal 2's story and sometimes the characters fell flat. Stirling is an annoying version of Wheatley and somehow even dumber than him. You can sense the betrayal coming from a mile away when you realize that this character is meant to be a parallel of Wheatley. Emily doesn't directly compare to Glados, other than being a massive downgrade writing wise when you think about her place in the story (A core that allows you to fight the antagonist core). Obviously not every Portal character has to be cynical but she's way too cheery for being in the body of a robot and being left hundreds of miles underground for milleniums probably. Sometimes she feels like she belongs in a children's book where everyone is super quirky and excited all of the time for no reason. As for the story it kinda felt like directly copying Portal 2 at times. You open your eyes at the facility with no central core and a random personality core escorts you out. You get to a specific part of the facility and your buddy core gains power of the facility as you head to the pits of Aperture and you meet a core there and you make your way to the upside where your previous buddy core betrays you and at the end of the game you fight them. This wouldn't have been so bad if the characters were somewhat good imo. The game does this thing where they "take what made Portal 2 so good" and hoped that it would work for revolution too if they implement it in a similiar way. The parallels for the characters are there and the gendering of the two cores is deliberate obviously. But they're nowhere near the writing quality of Wheatley and Glados. As for one last complaint they also do this in gameplay too at times, most prominently during the bit in the old Aperture where you have to paint the entire area with the white gel, except it requires you to do an airstrafe to finish the level that wouldn't be obvious to you if you played Portal 2 a lot and think that you can't move in the air like that, but you can.

For the overall plot I do get where you’re coming from. I wasn’t the biggest fan of sterlings character. I liked Conley a lot though and really liked the twist in the plot where you discover he was a vacuum made by Conley. It then makes sense to have the gendered cores be the way they are so that Conley is technically Stirling’s mom. Also yeah I hated that gel part, totally agree on that.

I really do agree that portal stories: mel is wayyy too hard. I, in the overgrown chambers, couldn't figure it out for like 2 months, then I remembered crouch fly glitch is a thing. Yeah.

A prequel would be awesome. Running around with that huge prototype portal gun with the back pack? Maybe some references to genetic testing? We could see old experiments on cancelled projects.
