This just ripped my heart out of my chest, and has me in floods of tears. I recently turned 48, and men of my generation were just not allowed to show these types of emotions at all. "Man up" our parents would say "Stop being such a pussy" I've lost a few good friends to suicide, and all of them were kindhearted, sensitive men, who were made to feel like outcasts, and "weak" for having emotions. I just want to say thank you to you younger generations for having the strength to see that bs for what it is, ie BS. And thank you for being courageous enough to share with us, as I'm sure some of that outdated dogma still exists for you too.

I’ve had this song on repeat for two hours- and I never do that. Living with Stage 4 breast cancer that has travelled to my lungs and bones at 43, (directly after doing chemo, double mastectomy, radiation and chemo again- ) I feel it’s a goodbye song…..that resonates and almost personifies my pain. Certain goodbyes leave a “forever void.” Thank you for expressing some of the most difficult to share experiences of your life with us. It has allowed me to process some emotions that I keep trying to ignore because I don’t feel as though I have permission to mourn. I feel like I not only have to endure all the pain of this disease silently- and it’s treatments, but that I have to do so without letting anyone know how much it hurts to watch your body as it’s taken over by your own rouge cells that refuse to die. Meanwhile you watch yourself slowly disappear, along with all your hopes, dreams, relationships…existence. Thank you Ren. 😢

Damn stratght Ren. I have a 20 year old son who won't talk and he hs lost too many people that he knows to suicide. Keeps seeming the demonstration of just what people do. And it is NOT. Parents can say things, educators can say ... even politicians and clergy ... but your platform (wanted or not) is so much more likely to be heard. Heart wrenching. I don't say any of this lightly Ren. You should not have the additional weight on your shoulders after all you have been through and all the young life that I know you greive for having lost so much due to illness. Continue to shine your bright light on us all but be strong against the darkness that comes with it. You have done it for a long time now.

We need to start teaching our boys that strength comes from accepting and dealing with your vulnerabilities. I had to learn in my 30's that showing my "vulnerabilities" was something that gave me strength instead of making me weak. I know I am a woman and society does allow me to show my feelings, I had not learned that. For me during my childhood it was not a safe thing to do. Now I am 45 and I am working hard on trying to live instead of surviving. Many young man, with a psychological vulnerability, end up in jail, with a substance abuse problem or dead. Women are taught to talk with each other. Maybe dads and mums need to teach their boys that it is okay to feel and share them?

"Not Manly". Fck that, I come from a russian family where they all told me to be manly. If u cant build a freaking house u are nothing, if u cant do work out to get stronger u are not manly, if u dont drink vodka u are not manly. Now I deal with depression and i had an alcohol addiction which slowly turned into overweight. I could have an easier path but hey, now im sober for 2 years, I am seeing a therapist and I lost weight, not because I try to be "manly" like the society sees it but because I am actually manly. I cry if i feel like it, i scream and be angry if i feel like it. I can tell all of u, the manliest thing u can do is to be u and be open about it. If u build up a wall in your mind that is called "manhood" then it can be taken down. But if you are just yourself and be open... how do u take down air? (english ist not my mother language, i apologize for that)

My partner and I lost a good friend, a dear mixed up soul who hanged himself in his kitchen at age 45. It was during the first year of Covid and his social life, DJing, was stopped. He would not tell any of his friends what the problem was no matter how we tried to get him to talk. There was no face-to-face therapy available, all remote. We have never recovered from it. There's a hole where he used to be. Some of us feel that we 'let him down'. His mother is devastated. There is never any mention of the seemingly taboo subject of male suicide. Something is wrong in our society.
