Reno Casinos In 1953; Neon,: Harold's Club, Ship Bar, Vintage Slot Machines, Etc.

Here is casino action in Reno Nevada circa 1953. We see the street scene during the day and there is some fantastic nighttime footage of the blazing neon. We also go inside a casino and see some of the action. Including slot machines in the shape of cowboys & indians.
The music is by Ronnie Singer a jazzbo whose connection to the footage is he died the same year the film was shot. Both the sights & sounds are public domain items found on the internetarchive.org

I worked the night shift at The Nevada Club when I was in college 1985-86. Back then, I thought it was a dump, but looking back I now realize it was an ICON!

Yes, it was a ICON! Lots of history . I loved playing there. In the 80's the place was jammed and so much fun. Great blackjack dealers too, ESPECIALLY MISTY!! Yea baby!! Wonder where she is today?

My family of six stopped to eat at Harold's Club in 1966 on our way from Kentucky to San Francisco when I was ten years old. I went back in the early 1990s, and it looked exactly the same as I remembered it. What a shame that it wasn't preserved as a monument to the early days of gambling.

The Ship Bar at 4:40 was located in Carson City, Nevada. In that same building was the Horseshoe Club in Carson City, for many years, from about 1965 to 2014. The Horseshoe Club suddenly closed in December 2014. The Horseshoe Club building and it's Nevada gaming license was recently sold, in January 2018....at 5:00 is The Wagon Wheel in South Tahoe. The Wagon Wheel became Harvey's Wagon Wheel some years later...Now it's a large hotel casino....

I remember the old riverside casino. Just walk over the truckee river bridge . It was owned by the mob.

I saw the guns at Harolds Club last week.Harolds Club Reno Or Bust sign is outside our town here in Redville .

Danny Boggs Where is Redville? is the sign still there? We used to have one on Highway 27, south of Lexington, Kentucky, but it has been gone for decades.

Long time resident here. It seems like the turning point was the closing of Harolds and the Nevada Club. After that, downtown Reno lost its character. It became a dull corporate Mecca.

Oh no. A lot of them have been closed and torn down. However I do have chips that I collect that come from those casinos. I'm an enthusiast for casino history.

For sure. Other people who lived especially through those times probably will tell you better than me. It's always fascinating to know these things. I'm even learning the real story about Casino during the hay days of the mafia in Las Vegas.

Harrah's bought Harold's Club and tore it down. Across Harold's was Fitzgerald's sold and became Whitneys. Nevada Club got eaten up by Harrah's. Cal Nevada is still open. Across Reno arch, El Dorado, Circus Circus and Silver Legacy now all owned by The El Dorado. Nothing else left besides those. You have to go south of Reno to find The Peppermill, Grand Sierra Resort and Atlantis. East of Reno in Sparks Nevada, the Nugget and Western Village.
