Set mine up with a 40 watt mono solar panel to float charge my 12v car battery and it works a treat. My controller is mounted in the boot. Amazing the number of people who ignore the instructions and complain that the PWM is faulty. When connecting cables to the controller always first connect the battery, then the panel. Reason being if the panel is connected first, the controller will burn out because it cannot dissipate the voltage anywhere and fries. If you need to disconnect the battery, then disconnect the panel first. With my set up, I just disconnect the panel and drive away. The feed from the controller to my battery is via the OBD diagnostic socket, meaning I can leave it connected whilst driving. The added advantage of this is also with the engine at tick over you can see the alternator charging voltage on the controller.

When setting up a lithium 24v battery, the 'boost' voltage selections appear to only be for 12v batteries (12-16v). Are they doubled for 24v (ex, set to 14.4v for a 28.8v max charge)? Manual doesn't specify it anywhere.

Everyone on here complaining really doesn’t know what they are talking about. I have 2 Renogy controllers and 3 panels and a Bluetooth dongle. I’ve have zero issues with any of it. I’m in the process of building a “grain bin cabin” and will be reaching out to Renogy again. Do your research and learn what is what....
@adogonasidecar12623 жыл бұрын
Yep a lot of folk run this at times with battery disconnected (such as using it to charge a car battery, then disconnecting the car battery without disconnecting the solar panel first). That will damage the connector. When used properly i.e. always with battery connected these things work well.

I have this Wanderer solar charger, and when I connect the Renogy 12AWG 9 inch solar MC4 cables to it, one keeps coming loose on the solar charger end ! Should I get the 14AWG instead? Any ideas, thanks
@RenogySolar2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Reviews. Thank you for your feedback. The current of your controller is 10A or 30A? If it is 10A, 12AWG 9 inch cable is enough. If it is 30A, we suggest 10AWG/8AWG cable. If it keeps coming loose, it may be the problem of controller itself. For the condition, you can submit a case through our Help Center Portal with more details (links listed below for specific locations) for solving your problems more timely and efficiently. renogy.force.com/helpcenter/s/contactsupport (USA) renogy.force.com/helpcenterau/s/casesubmit (Australia) renogy.force.com/helpcenterca/s/contactsupport (Canada) renogy.force.com/helpcenteruk/s/contactsupport (UK)

I've read the manual and every comment I can find on these. I have a 250W, 37V panel that has the potential of making just under 9A max. So I'm good with the initial parameters. The manual states this can take a 50V input and will automatically find the battery voltage. Now for the question: Does an input voltage over 24V require a 24V battery bank? (This seems to be the case on most small and inexpensive PMW controllers.)
@MF-ns4qz2 жыл бұрын
Disregard this comment. Communication with Renogy customer service was pathetic and not helpful. I have now gone down the PMW controller rabbit hole. I understand these controllers basically function by switching ON and OFF. This means it is best to keep the input voltage near that of the batter bank. Too much input voltage will kill the controller. Renogy states this Wanderer 10A controller has a 50V input potential, which is extremely misleading. Even the super cheap Chinese PMW controllers tell you above 28-30V input you must have a 24V battery. Guess I'll keep the Chinese PWM and alter the panel.
@RenogySolar2 жыл бұрын
Hi, MF. Our PWM charger controller will pull the pv voltage down to a similar level of the battery voltage during charging. As long as the pv input is within the limitation of the controller, it will not do damage to your battery when the controller is working properly.

10 amps is the charge current. As long as your battery bank is 12v it’ll charge it @ 10 amps. Like a battery charger you buy from the store. Except with the sun. My battery is 1000 amp marine battery, takes a while to charge but it charges. Source: I haz one.
