As a new subscriber today (Canada) I appreciated seeing this tour of the ground floor. What strikes me the most is the comforting warm soul your chateau still has. Love the wonky hand-hewn stairs, odd doors (?) & the evolution of design styles in each room. You hold a true gem in your hands... absolutely lovely 💞

Wow if I could read French I'd be straight in your library, I love history omg you are so lucky . Its wonderful that the previous owners have left all those documents about your beautiful new home and those magazines just beautiful ❤. You have lovely views from the every room. The dining room is crying out for a fire place to be put back and yes I agree with you it the paneling does needs to be painted again, the wood isn't uniform in colour is nice , but looks terrible sorry. I'm suprised there isn't a butler's sink in the pantry . Did old French pantrys have a cold stone ? My nans house had one in her pantry, for keeping items cold , before the age of the domestic fridge. You have such a beautiful home thank you for sharing with us your journey. I cant wait to see what you will do to this beauty, but shes going to look amazing when shes fully restored I'm sure of that.

Hi Jennifer. Awesome comment. The entrance needs to be much brighter. Even just taking down the wallpaper was an improvement…. Now that tells us a lot about the paper! The grand salon needs a lot of work and very different colors. The red furniture will move to the blue salon (won’t stay blue). A little light gold touches are a great option. However, your husband is right, it is big of you! 😘😂. I like your ideas and while some people would use deeper and darker colors, I agree, they need to be bright and cheerful. We will be open for volunteers, once we have a suitable bathroom or the farmhouse up and running. Tomorrow, we will go and open a specific bank account for buy me a coffee and Patreon as well. It is humbling and very touching, that there are so many caring people who want to help. For now, please take care and heal up completely and be kind to yourself! Huge hugs from us here at the Château de Colombe. 🥰💗🥰

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the second salon the blue salon with the alcove in it originally would’ve been a bedroom. And the hidden door was so that you could discreetly put on your nightgown and slide in to the sheets before your husband would see you. If history serves me right. The château is amazing. I love the first real salon. I really like the color the lighter faded color. All the documents that have been saved are phenomenal! How fortunate you are to have them all. I love all the magazines so incredible. How exciting to literally peel back the layers of all the château’ secrets. I’d love the Butler’s pantry. The kitchen is enchanting! Love the kitchen table and all of the furniture! Very smart to get an actual electrician in to assess and fix now. I can’t believe how much you guys have gotten done actually. I am not sure whether it was in the grand salon do you have two mirrors that are right across from each other? I don’t know if you believe in the paranormal or not, but that’s a definite way to open up a portal that you really don’t want! I caution you to have two mirrors in any room right across from each other. U2 are so delightful to watch! I was telling someone else that I’m not very happy with KZbin right now because I’m not getting notifications which is frustrating. I don’t know why. I am subscribed. I wish you both well and have a smooth week and look forward to touching bases again. Sending love from California😎🤟🏻💜🇺🇸

What a treasure house! The magazines alone! I have Australian magazines (Home Beautiful and Vogue Living primarily) dating back to the 1990s. I badly need the space, but I cannot bring myself to let them go. The giddy excitement of reading your amazing magazines would send me into delirium! The history in those pages, casual unnoticed history that is largely ignored by the official history books! Wonderful objects! Thank you for the video!

In the dining room I adore the radiator with the warming oven. The one in my home was removed in the early 20th century. You are so fortunate to have one!

I would put the hardware in a crockpot and give them a good soak. The paint comes off very nicely.

Yes, we have heard of this method. We had to buy all new appliances moving to France, so we don't have an old crockpot to try this out. Thanks!

Regarding the antique magazines: you could consider going through them and selecting your favorites. Other magazines could be donated or even sold in your future Chateau store where villagers or guests could purchase as a momento reminding them of their stay.

I'm finally getting the chance to see your most interesting vlog a few days after it aired and I'm happy! Again, you've entertained me, this time, with the tour of your absolutely gorgeous chateau!!! I love the lay out and when you opened the window to show the gate and the birds were singing....lovely!

Thank you so much Norma. What a lovely comment. Indeed, we wake up around 5:30 in the morning and hear the birds and it goes all day long. Just wonderful. So happy you like the chateau. We enjoy the layout as well. Very practical and that we have 3 staircases is great too. Hugs from us at the Château de Colombe ❤

That cupboard is beautiful the way it is. I wouldn't mess with it at all. And that cement floor (that we have to do something with) could be painted with a pattern that resembles other floors. The quarter sawn wood is beautiful.

My impression is the blue salon was at one time a bedroom and the alcove was where a bed would have been. The door into the alcove is there so it would be easier for the servants to make the bed.

You said that the end room with the cream flowered wallpaper was a bedroom but was the "blue" room not also a bedroom at one point in time.. I watch a few of the Chateau channels and in them they say that the rooms with the alcoves in, like the blue room, are where a bed used to be situated, as they also have the "secret" doors in them..I love watching these videos that yourselves and the other Chateau owners post, they are so informative and for you to allow people to follow you in your restoration journey of these beautiful buildings is wonderful. The views that you have from the rooms are amazing, I'm so jealous and wish I too could have a Chateau...good luck to you both and I look forward to more wonderful videos, love from the UK
@JourneytotheChateau2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Dawn! The alcove was probably for a day bed and it had curtains, which is what we are looking to do with it. Thank you for watching! 💕
@patrickjourneytothechateau94522 жыл бұрын
Hi there Dawn. The blue room might have been a withdrawing room in the 1700s. Alcove and WC to take a nap and relax but not as bedroom. However, no one knows. There are many chateaux with that kind of feature and quite frankly, I love the idea of taking a nap with the curtains closed and being awakened by a lovely cup of tea… 🤣🤪🤣. Those doors were so nice. One didn’t have to see the servants…. 😮. Kidding. We are blessed to have wonderful people like you watching and commenting. Our views are quite stunning. Never had views like this in a place I owned or rented. It’s exciting. It always an option to come and visit one or multiple chateaux without the responsibility. You are always welcome here! Hugs from us at the Château de Colombe

What a lovely and informing tour of the ground floor rooms, thanks so much. It’s been great following your journey from the beginning and I can’t wait to see how you develop each room into a beautiful home. That staircase in the kitchen is a real treasure even if the steps are ‘wonky’. You can see the worn parts of the steps where many feet have walked up and down over the ages! You are so lucky to have all those historical documents left with the Chateau. Those books are another treasure and imagine the thought and care of the people saving them for over a hundred years for future owners to enjoy. I’m no expert but from my experience, I would move all those archives away from the window and protect them from light as the sun will fade the writing and also darken the paper. I have a book case beside a window as you have with that cabinet and I have a dark sheet over the front to keep the spines of the books from fading. With your library bookcase you could even put a covering over the glass on the inside? 😅I always marvel at all the suggestions given in the comments about what you should do and here I am doing just that! Sorry - I couldn’t resist!!😂 (Bye the way, I do love your intro.) 🏰🥰
@JourneytotheChateau2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The documents are in a temporary location. The library stays constantly dark since we have been here. We only opened the shutters for recording the vlog.
@patrickjourneytothechateau94522 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. What a great comment. We’d never touch the wonky stairs. It’s what makes them charming and as you said, it’s the history! There is no daylight currently in the library. The documents were piled up after someone literally dumped them in the large cabinet and they stayed there for almost 100 years without any care. One day we will tackle them. Or so,done volunteers to do that. I like most suggestions. Some are quite crossing the line. Lol. I think you know what I am referring to. 😂🤣😂. Love your comment and thank you for being on the journey with us from the start. Hugs from the Chateau de Colombe 😊
